| Arrrgh - Guess I shoulda started earlier in life... I Wrote the Book of Love - Quote :
- Alec - who just finished a children's book on the Watergate scandal -
said he wants to be a full-time writer when he grows up, with a weekend job in archaeology or paleontology. Yeah, me too... |

| Oh the dreams of the young and innocent. Having something to strive for is the important thing. We as adults should never tell them that they can't or that something is impossible to achieve. When I was a kid the expression, "That's like going to the moon" was used for things considered impossible. How wrong we were. |

| Going to the moon, selling a book to HarperCollins, getting a date... pretty much the same grade of fantasy in my world. |

| If the whole book reads like this, he's gonna be rich: "Pretty girls are like cars that need a lot of oil."
Malcolm
P.S. Abe, I'be updated my "going to the moon" fantasy for the line out of TOY STORY: "To infinity, and beyond." |

| But did he really write it or is he just the gimmick to get the sales. I know kids grow up faster these days but what does a nine year old know about the oppisite sex and are they really interested? |

| ... I agree Billy! ... and cars that need a lot of oil are old and knackered not young and pretty. |

| At nine there were many things I did not know about girls but I sure knew they could be annoying and the pretty ones needed special treatment - or oil. Now that I am no longer nine I can't think of a thing that has changed in that respect. |

| Dick said: "When I was nine..." and "Now..." For me, there was the cover up, making me wonder what was so special that they were trying to hide. Later "things" were more exposed - mini-skirts and bikinis, Ahhhhh. Now there is another cover up trying to hide a figure that has taken on a different shape. So what's next? |

| What's next, Abe? After the bikini is probably the mumu--(how is that spelled, anyway?) but hopefully, much later. |

| Shelagh, we don't have knackered cars in the states because we've never heard of the word "knackered."

| I always like "knackered", actually. And "wanker". There just aren't man American equivalents that are as cool as either of them. |

| Oh, before Dick arrives and starts saying how impossible it is to converse with a bunch of loonies from across the pond, I'd better explain : “ knacker's yard” was once a place where old horses were converted into glue. |

| Shelagh, You may wish to qualify, "old horses" before Dick makes his appearance. |
