Publishers are unlikely to be able to replace the revenues lost in the shift from print to e-books unless they can significantly grow volume sales, according to HarperCollins c.e.o. Victoria Barnsley.

This is not a surprise. Except maybe to the publishers. Many of us predicted it a while back only to be told we were chasing a trend with a short lifespan.

They're still clinging to that "look and feel and smell of a real book" nostalgia. And then she says ever so sagely, "So, not surprisingly, brand and price become the deciding factors." Ya think?

Ya the CEO seems to be full of Captain Obvious. They'll always be places to buy ink on paper books, but I don't know how long until they become a niche like vinyl.
