When you visit Google, have you at times noticed a colourful, picturesque 'doodle' on display beside the search box? Google in the UK are running a competition for kids to design a new doodle, the winning design of which is going to be viewed by millions of users worldwide. My friend text me the other day, saying his daughter (who's aged 11) had become 1 of only 12 finalists in the whole of the UK in that competition! How proud I felt (and he is) for such brill achievement! If you visit this page: http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/doodle4google/vote.html ...and click on 7-11 yrs, you will see my friend's daughter (named Sheza of Robert Bruce Middle School) listed as a finalist in her age group and also that super, super piece of artwork for her doodle!

Thank you folks for casting your votes. Let's hope she wins. I like the 'community' theme to this doodle... and if she makes it, she'll get a free trip to Googleplex in sunny California for a week with her mom and dad.

I voted for it also. I checked out some of the others as well and am amazed at the explanations under each one. These children definitely have social conscience.

| I voted, too, first because it's a really cool doodle, and second because I have to support anyone from a school named Robert Bruce.

I voted too. It's a work of art, not a doodle.

My friend (a close friend at that, whom I have known since start of high school back in 1980) just text me on my cell phone again. His daughter, Sheza Rani, has won the competition in her age category: http://www.google.co.uk/doodle4google/ Okay... she will have to skip that vacation to California, since the *overall* winner was someone else... but she will still get interviewed by the BBC tomorrow and will meet Queen Elizabeth II of England on October 16th!

Ahad, strangely I feel somehow that I won too just by my vote. Meeting the Queen will be a lifetime memory.

Abdul this is such a neat thread! My sister met the queen when she was about 12 and will never forget it. On another note, Malcolm, are you related to Robert the Bruce too? If so, I think we are quite possibly distant cousins!

Well folks, she met Her Majesty the Queen alright. There's a video from the Royal Channel (yes even the Queen is now an internet star): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8xDTZMYfa6g Sheza is seen standing behind the Queen's chin at 2:20 and again from 2:26 to 2:35. Her father said that's more than good enough exposure for his little princess at this early age
