WHAT WOULD EUROPEANS THINK OF BLACK FRIDAY MADNESS ?

What would Europeans think of the Black Friday Madness in this country,

I saw a video someone took in a Walmart of a mass mob fighting over free

cellphones, it disheartens me that Americans can act like a bunch of animals,

people cursing each other, fighting and threats with weapons ...What do you

think ? I'm pretty sure in Europe they don't have black Fridays...

I love online shopping. Black Friday online is great. I got a lamp, computer, personalized Christmas stockings for the grankids and a luscious Mickey Mouse Santa hat to top our tree.

I didn't have to fight the crowds--just did it in my cozy pajamas.

You're right Joe. There is no black Friday, to my knowledge, in Europe. I can only speak of Germany and what I hear/see on the news.
Recently I have done shopping on-line and find it an easy way to shop with convenience.
I purchased items on-line from Germany for delivery to Virginia, USA. That saved me having to carry the items. In most cases the items originated in the USA and therefore little or no delivery charge.

With books it is the same. I have purchased from Amazon and sent books to whomever with little or no shipping charge. I am pleased with on-line shopping for international purposes. For gifts locally, I prefer to shop at local stores and give them my business, when that is possible.

Personally, I think Black Friday is demeaning, especially now with its creep into Thursday. However, I pity the families who have so many gifts to buy and so little income to do it. Peer pressure among children is so difficult. I look at the cost of children's things and am grateful I no longer have things to buy for youth. When my boys were young, they were into some type of athletics, so the choices were clothes and sports equipment, even from the time they were very little. We bought one "big" gift and stocking stuffers. I see carts full - and know parents are going way above their means to give their kids the "best."

My favorite black Friday store, the only one I go to, is ACE Hardware. They put stuff on sale with enough for anyone that wants one, usually two or three items with rebates that make them nearly free or free. I have a very nice tape measure with a rebate making it free and a small crock pot for $2.99 after rebate. Those were the only things I needed, but they had some other cool items too. Rebates are done online, don't even require a stamp.

Our best Christmas was the one in Germany where we were supposed to be home in a month and stayed there six months. We didn't want to buy a lot of things to take back or pack as each month was an extension we didn't expect. Thus, for Christmas, our son received a train set and the rest of the presents added to the collection of shoebox and wallpaper scrap toys we had made. We figured to throw all those away when we packed up to return to the U.S. (not the train - but it was small).

When we arrived in the U.S., our son was nearly hysterical because we had left all his homemade toys in Germany (in the trash, really). We had made a whole city of houses and cars and fences with sewing scraps, cardboard, wallpaper and scissors.

I shop the Disney Store and buy most clothes online from Nordstrom, LL Bean, Vermont Country Store, and Zappos. I love Amazon and get most all of my books and dvds from them. I got my lamp from JC Penny and the computer from the hp home site.

hope you all have had a good Thanksgiving.

Remember I said that this would be my first Black Friday ever? Well, that didn't happen.

I was watching TV on Thursday and saw recaps of Black Fridays gone by. It scared my socks off. I saw how people were pushing into the stores, how they were tumbling across each other, and that was it for me right there.

Then my husband, with a healthy dose of sarcasm in his voice, pointed out how much I love crowds. Now, I can handle organized ones.... unorganized and wild ones give me flashbacks of a soccer game that I have been to when I was a lot younger, and they play directly to my survival instinct.

So, I decided that it was better to skip Black Friday.

However, I did go to Walmart on Thursday, before all the hoopla started, and it was already moving into teh realm of insane. Isles were blocked off, Black Friday deals were stashed and guarded by employees, and several customers were lurking around like they were waiting for a whistle to start the run.

So, in my mind, I have linked Black Friday in the same category as the Run of the Bulls. Cool to watch on TV, a great tool to evaluate my own sanity - afterall, who wants to be chased by a bunch of wild bulls- but not something that I participated in.

LOL, I must have had a temporary laps in judgement when I thought that I was going to catch this Black Friday...lol.

PS. No, Germany does not have anything comparable to Black Friday, but give them time... they will catch up, afterall - they now have Turkey and Halloween, too - something that they didn't have before.
