Leno the other night noticed that Spitzer is running for comptroller and Weiner is running for mayor. He said they could team up as the "hooker booker and the peter tweeter."

Perfect! ...and may they lose.

Unfortunately or fortunately the modern instant communications and lack of privacy reveal things that in the past would remain unknown.

I tend to agree with his wife that computer games among consenting adults is up to her level of tolerance.  Unfortunately, consenting adults on the computer are often underage or different than they represent themselves.  So, I guess a person in public office could get themselves compromised which could affect their public decision-making.  Or they could be engaged in illegal activity.

Perfection is difficult to find. I read a psychological study about powerful and successful men and it said they were more apt to be promiscuous and risk takers in their personal behavior similar to their professional style.

Women, on the other hand, were more likely to be very dull in their personal lives the more power and influence they had professionally.

Draw your own conclusions about who should be nominated for political offices.

We are not talking perfection here, at least I'm not.  Why elect a person so bereft of common decency and self control?

I agree with you Alice; I was talking in generalities.  Now that we live in a world where we do know, we have the choice to make decisions with that knowledge.

I take these episodes as being representative of a candidate's judgment rather than his or her morals. Anyone stupid enough to intentionally attract that kind of limelight is likely, in my opinion, to practice similarly poor judgment with executive decisions that effect his or her constituency.

After the earlier Wiener episode, I used this joke in my comedy act.

"They wanted Weiner to go to California and run for office, but he said he'd rather stick it out in New York."

Wiener apologized to anyone he may have offended with what were apparently unsolicited naked pictures. Sending pictures of oneself to strangers in the hopes of striking up a "friendship" is not legal activity. Sending naked pictures of oneself to other adults who did not request them is criminal activity. As Al noted, this is about one's judgment and also about one's mendacity as he claimed not to remember whether the conduct continued after his resignation in 2011 but then added that it took place last summer--almost a year after the resignation. So he is either a dolt or a brazen liar. Either way, he is unfit to govern NYC. In this non-judgmental, anything goes, it is only a private matter about sex kind of world, I say simply "degenerate is as degenerate does." The craven act of parading his poor wife in front of the cameras to read a prepared statement seeking to excuse the inexcusable is just more clear evidence of his lack of honor, decency, or sense. Excusing these failings encourages more of the same. Second chances have to be earned. Show contrition, take responsibility, earn the public trust again that you piddled on so joyfully, and then maybe you will have earned a second chance. Better yet, like Narcissus, go admire the reflection of your namesake in a deep pool of water and drown in your own admiration. Please.

No  one should support his reelection bid.  We need people with brains, scruples and good judgment--he lacks in all areas.

My God!  And here I thought elected officials were supposed to be smart... oh wait, no I never thought that.  But I at least thought that they were required to have some decency to them.  What planet is this guy from, where it's okay to do something like this?  because it's certainly not from Earth.

It's really sad, but I don't think he feels sorry about this.  If he looses the election, then he'll feel sorry, but not about his actions.  He wants to get headlines, and that's all.  Otherwise, no sane person on this planet, would even consider doing something like this.

Unfortunately, people with "compunctions" are not using their brains.

I hope he has a brain to use.
