I recommend a quick read of this blog. I did some of my best marketing after a meeting with the Small Business Administration rep who talked me into registering my fictitious name so I could have a separate business bank account very clearly and to write a marketing plan (that I later used to have Ghost Orchid vetted by New York's small press department for Barnes and Nobles so they would shelf my books), etc. I think the creative side of writers often shies away from the business aspect; I know I do and that I need to be reminded, especially since I need to renew my name!

Yeah, I ran into the B&N issue. I'm hoping my publisher gets me into their program.
