| This drought will not help them. Food prices will rise. Sad situation. |

| Don't worry. The wealthiest people and corporations are doing better than ever before; they will provide for the poor. They appreciate the benefits that deregulation and taxing loopholes have provided them; they feel obligated to return to society a measure of the benefit they have received. |

Sometimes sarcasm helps. |

| Actually, a very few corporations do behave responsibly by taking care of their employees and giving back for their service; many also contribute large sums to community needs. Unfortunately, those are rare and insufficient to even make a dent in the needs or adequately represent what should be returned to society.
Like many, I am suspicious that Governor Romney had years when he paid no taxes, legally. The same applies to corporations and other wealthy people who have the means to hire the brainiacs that help them maximize the loopholes so they return very little to the society that provided them the opportunity for excessive wealth.
One "loophole" is donations; the donations are a miniscule percentage compared to what you and I drop in the Sunday church basket. Donations make the wealthy look good - but the tax breaks make it an unbalanced "wash." |

| DK. Giving without any expectation of return is the most satisfying. Most give for economic reasons. Sometimes donations can lower the tax bracket and therefore save money for the giver. That is not a true gift but a business transaction. I've always wondered how getting a receipt for tax purposes on tithes to the church can be considered a gift. The answer is usually, "Why not?" "Everyone does it."
Then there are those who just can't accept a gift or a good turn without feeling indebted. That is true where I live. You give someone a bucket of beans and some heads of lettuce and they give bottles of wine in return. You help someone out because you simply want to be of help, and they feel they must repay you. Sometimes that is frustrating. The only way around that is to give something anonymously. That is not easy to do. On the other hand, it tells you that they appreciate what you did and show their appreciation the best way they can. |

| There's a lovely philosophical reading called, "Just for Today." One of its suggestions is that Just for Today you do a good turn without being found out. The entire piece is worth reading "Just for Today." |
