Barnes & Noble Book Signing Empty

Shelagh suggested I let Al know about my book signing event at Barnes & Noble, Redlands, CA, June 2012. She thought he might be interested since he recently signed with the same publisher - Gale/Cengage 5 Star Mysteries. So Al, this is for you and anyone else interested in the process.

I sold out in 35 minutes!

What an exciting day for me. The city opened their local museum for a reception
afterward. Mayor Dick Riddell led a champagne toast and made me feel special. I was in tears.

I'd been asked about the publishing process, so I started a blog beginning with
the query in late 2010. A couple of posts were lost, but I began again in Jan
2011, four months after the query, and noted each step along the way including
the offer, advance, edits, receiving the ARCs, and finally, to the signing:

Check my website for more info about With Full Malice and to watch the trailer.

Thanks, Brenda. Did you organize the signing yourself?

After With Full Malice was released, I talked to the CRM at my local B&N, and she took care of all the details. She asked for .jpgs of my book cover and of me, and she had signs made for the door - nearly three feet tall - and also inside:

She ordered the books and posted notice of the signing on the B&N website. I couldn't have asked for more. She also advised me to bring plenty of handouts for the 'lull' times. Neither of us expected what happened. She said later she was shocked that people kept coming, that not only did they order my book after it sold out, but they all paid in advance.

I really don't know what caused it; all I can say I was surprised and thrilled, and I hope you have the same experience.

Congratulations! When Ghost Orchid was first released my book signings were similar - though no one threw me a party and offered a toast! I've yet to exprience a "launch party."

Did you have PR in the local press and radio?

Since I'd written features and restaurant reviews for the newspaper, they ran a couple of nice spreads about the signing, and I also posted info on my website and Facebook. No radio.

btw, I've recently created a Page on Facebook, was told to get as many 'likes' as possible, so I'd appreciate writers here liking my page. Let me know who you are and I'll return the favor:

I'm knocked out! I know how hard you have worked for this. I hope there are many more signings to come!

Thanks, I appreciate that, Shelagh.

People who say writing is easy must be writing on a different planet, because it's taken time, effort, patience, developing a thick skin, and many other attributes to gain the skills necessary to move upward in publishing. And I'm still learning, always open to something, anything, that will help me create a page-turner.
