In the July issue of swspotlight.com/author/dk_christi I anticipate my article about Osprey. You might want to give it a read. They are quite attentive to their young, their mates and their homes to which they return, year after year. Though a member of the hawk family, they are a bit smaller than an Eagle and considered a gentle bird of prey, preferring fish for which they dive and work for their dinners. They will leave a meal rather than fight over it; they allow other bird species to pluck pieces of their nest to take away to build another. The oldest Osprey recorded is 32 years old. They will migrate up to 5000 miles; the younger ones taking chancier routes with danger than the older ones that choose safer routes. It's fascinating to understand the "instincts" of creatures large and small.http://www.spotlight.com/author/dk_christi

DK..

This mother bird built her nest on a wall near the pool

here in the compound where I live. I watched carefully and she sat

on the fence near the pool watcing me, I got this shot by using a

flash....She had four babies...Here's their close up.

Dear Joe,

I love their big lips! In the cayenne peppers some cardinals have built a lovely nest. When I walk by, the parent that is setting at the time flutters out to distract me from the nest. What kind of birds are these?

You really are a marvel at photographing nature!

DK, I have always been amazed by the osprey. It is (to me) the Florida eagle. I see the nests on high telephone poles along the highways that I go. I used to see woodpecker houses on poles out here in the wilderness. I do not see them any more. They were for woodpecker nesting and to prevent those round holes that the wooodpecker pecked out of telephone poles. Now, a lot of telephone poles are concrete. It must be a surprise to the woodpeckers!

Joe, What is that nest material? It looks like dobs of mud and straw plastered to a wall.

Ingenious!

Love,

Betty

Love,

Betty

Betty..

I've seen several of these nests around the area, they do look

like mud and straw, what kind of birds they are I don't know, I do

know we have hundreds of thousands of sparrows...Tomorrow I have

to see if the nest is still there...

Love Joe...Very Happy

Joe, they look like Barn Swallows. It is also the kind of nests they build.
