I've mentioned this before, but there are new forum members who may have an interest. Examiner.com hires writers, trains them and pays them according to a complex formula from which I have gained no income yet. However, the articles are picked up by search engines immediately, and if you can get your articles to link to your web site or information about your books, then you have a good, free promotional medium.

You can see my articles by going to examiner.com and typing D. K. Christi in the search box. I have found writing for examiner.com worth every minute of it for the great feedback on my writing and the free training they offer for maximizing SEO, using photography, citing links, etc. If I made any money, it would be a bonus.

If you decide to apply, I will be paid a $50 referral fee if you are accepted and you use the codes below on your application:

A colleague of mine writes for two examiner locations, Las Vegas and L.A. Her articles are cleverly on one theme: authors tricks of the trade and other author related information. She runs enough articles that I imagine she has a steady income. Her articles are informative and sequential so that she probably has a following. Then, she gathered up the articles and printed them in a book. They are well written and good tips for authors. She also has some interesting interview subjects.

Unfortunately, I am not that organized. I write about retirement in southwest Florida but have not figured a way to tie the articles together into a book format. I also don't submit articles often enough to gain a following; and they are always a bit different topic. Also, my examiner editors are pretty strict about localizing the articles which reduces their general income potential from other sources.

However, every article is evaluated by the examiner staff, and it's quite a discipline to write to their criteria - though very possible. They are just a professional outfit though they have many writers and many articles and the cream rises to the top for national promotion.
Anyway, my post has two purposes: to let the newbies know about a source of potential income - potential, a source for some great critiques, and if you choose to apply, a potential referral fee for me :-)

Be sure to use the codes so I am your referral :-)

I really think it is good writing practice, good exposure (the google bot picks up all my articles) and potential income for those who post often.
