The Alien ate my Homework
Last night I stayed awake with work I got from school maths and science and history I had to do them all.
A loud noise at my window called me from my bed I looked out and looking back at me was a bright green alien head
He was sitting on a saucer that glowed flourecent red when I opened up my window he floated to my bed.
He saw my books and written work his actions very quick as one by one he ate them all I stood there feeling sick.
When he finished off my written work he left just one small trace as evidence he'd eaten it the ink stains on his face
The Alien burped his thanks at me then floated back outside his saucer glowed a bright pea green as the Alien went inside.
No one believes my story they say it's some excuse for not turning in my schoolwork they give me some abuse.
But when I look up in the sky I know that out in space somewhere there's an Alien with my Homework on his face.

Love the poem, David. I, as a teacher, would not like those aliens. Never got the alien excuse. Several "The dog ate it" instances, and one, "A rat ate it." That last one however, proved to be true.

I started teaching at the night high school in '94. When this film came out, our principal took all 25 of us (the entire faculty) to see it, and charged the cost of our tickets to the school district, calling it "faculty in-service."
The first year we opened, 20% of our kids passed the state exams. The second year, 80% passed - the same as the district average.
I totally identify with Pfeiffer's character. Had almost that same discussion re "you are not a victim."
