I'm not listening to all that ...can someone give an executive summary? Probably a bunch of bullshit anyhow, only one of the richest women in the world can talk about how failure "benefited" her. Well, I guess coming up with enough platitudes to fill a graduation speech is hard.

I listened to the first 30 seconds -no funny or witty yet, and I'm an impatient kind of person. Smile

I had two careers - a night college physics instructor and an engineer by day. On one job I hired into they said, "Jim in our product line we make a million parts a year, and even a nickel mistake would cost us $50,000 - so please don’t make any mistakes."

So I didn’t. Failure is not an option - and if you learn anything from a mistake - it is already too late

So you failed to listen for more than 30 seconds. There must be a benefit in that. A win win situation.

Shelagh,

Wonderful! I shared it with my husband and daughter--and they loved it. Thank you.

My mother used to laugh until she cried over a well drilling worker.

One day he accidentally dropped his hammer down the oil shaft.

Days later and thousands of dollars were spent retrieving it.

The boss gave him the hammer and said, 'You are fired."

"Guess I won't need this any longer," said the workman as he threw it back down the shaft!

'Thanks for sharing, Shelagh, it was not only witty, but conveys an important message.
I think we find what we are made of when we fail. With every adversity there is a benefit, the most important of which is what we do to overcome the failure/adversity. Some find an inner strength that not only digs them out of the failed situation, but propells them to greater heights than normally may have been achieved without the motivation created by failing. And there are some who just quit. They are more easily identified and prevalent.

Robert Kennedy once said, "No one succeeds without first having failed." That statement is included in my first book and inspired me to try again, after having failed.
Statements about failure have been made by great inventors. Thomas Edison comes to mind. Some successful people have written about failure as an opportunity, an education.

A sign that hung on the wall of one of my superiors when I was in the Air Force, said: "The most hazardous of human tendencies is to draw general conclusions from limited information." That statement reminds me to get the facts before jumping to conclusions.
