| Ours is horses - And my wife's stuff. She has stuff everywhere. On counters, the floor, the closet, on shelves, in cabinets - everywhere. We have more VCR tapes than Walmart. //The Paint (BG) is a Missouri Fox-trotter, and the white (Ben) is an Arab gelding. The Arab is faster than the wind, and the Paint rides as smooth as a Cadillac. The theme is throughout the house, including the sand from the paddock on the entryway floor /James / |

| We are in the midst of updating ours with new moldngs, door casings etc. We are decluttering also. It will look so much better when we are through.
Our rec room is decorated in red black and white to coordinate with our Harrod's rug. The rug is a smashing focal point. |

| My "theme" is more about colors: greens, wines, sand and mauve. (Remember the color of Meggie's dress in The Thornbirds? Ashes of roses.), bits of bright red for accent. My floors are all a blend of gray/green/taupe - sort of dirt colored. In my last house I had pale cream beige. Keeping it clean was a [difficult task]. I am very happy with my floors here. The bedroom and study use the same tones - more soft green in the BR. |

| Our house has 17 very large windows. From any room in the house, the whole of the outside is viewable. I have worked on making every view lovely, from the birds feeding at the feeders, the flowers, the fountain, the woods....we are connected to the property from any room. From any room, we can see all around.
This is our sanctuary. I have a poem that Lillian Brummet wrote about her mother framed and hung behind a large peace lilly. On one wall is a triad of photographs of our Carol's Northwoods in spring, summer and fall. Plants, lots of plants, and orchids in white pots on the sill of the biggest window.
I love beautiful gewgaws. They adorn my library shelves. Rocks and small perfume bottles. One Carol sent me of Evening In Paris in a small blue bottle. A memory and a longing from my childhood to be beautiful. Books, special books and some just old bat books that looked so sorry where I found them. Old sermons from the 18 hundreds from some opinionated preacher of his own gospel. Old geography books that are now known to be a lie about how the lay of the land really was.
I am at home here among all these bits and pieces that have collected like dust around me. Love, Betty |

| The theme of my house is "comfort." The house has a lot of wood inside and is cozy and compact. I have a deck that is like another room of the house to step out onto and look at what the night sky has to offer. There are other outdoor sections that are like more rooms with stone patios, sitting areas, and lots of plants. |

| I didn't have it built, but it was six years old when I bought it, and the upstairs was unfinished and the yard was full of trees. I loved all the wood. It's taken over 30 years to get the yard under control and planted like I want it. I did build the three patios that I have. It's on a hill, and the soil is filled with rocks. It's a work in progress! Back breaking, but always a labor of love. |
