| Just two of many lines in this review that caused me to swoon right off my chair: - Quote :
- Sweet Spot is incredible. Linton Robinson should be catapulted
to the top of the pile of contemporary authors. Why didn't this novel win the National Book Award or the Pulitzer Prize? - Quote :
- I've read a lot of novels in the first ten years of this new
century, and I must say that Sweet Spot is one of the three or four I like the best. This review is so overwhelmingly positive it makes me wonder when I’ll wake up. But even MORE wonderful for me since this book has been an “ugly duckling” since publication. Local papers and book sections gone out of business, reviews canceled for the economic downturn, unread by editors in Mazatlan...it’s been very discouraging and disheartening. And now this. Yow! Mexico Connect, by the way, is better than the New York Times when you want to reach gringos in Mexico, a huge and dominant web presence. I’m still in shock. This is the MexiConnect home page--where a teaser for the review will appear for 24 hours (Yow!) If you don’t see it top right, then click to the review link below. http://www.mexconnect.com/ http://www.mexconnect.com/articles/3635-sweet-spot-a-novel-about-mazatlan-carnival-dirty-politics-and-baseball YOWSAH!!!! |

| Let me point out that I don't know Mr. Tipton, nor have I knowingly paid him or had sex with him. I don't discount the possibility that he is some sort of Jimmy Stewart angel or that I'll wake up and it was all a dream.
Let me also mention---it IS possible for a book to wallow in discouragement and disappointment for a year, then suddenly pay off. |

| Congrats! I put it in my Amazon cart. Why is it so expensive, though? |

| EXPENSIVE? For a book mentioned for the NBA and Pulitzer?
(PS... it's cheaper at the publisher site-- http://adorobooks.com/booksweet.php ) |

This is great. I was getting way too giddy over this thing. |

| I collect books in my cart until the $25 needed for free shipping is hit. Let us know how this review affects the numbers, I'm sure everyone here is curious. Hey, you at least made one sale out of it. |

| I didn't receive a killer review but I did receive an encouraging email:
"Sounds like your book is being well received. ... I have my Palm Beach mystery coming out in November and just got the galley proofs and I was in Alaska and Canada for a week. Where by the way I visited Victoria recalling your mention of it in your book. Also I loved the references to your time in Boston and New England. It brought back very fond memories of my youth. I liked the way you write. Some of your sentences are fantastic and lyrical."
If there was one thing I really worked hard at it was creating a voice. The book (The Power of Persuasion) is written in first person, but everyone who knows me says that Beth Durban is not me -- she doesn't sound like me -- she's lyrical whereas I am dull. |
