Dear Joe,
The first humming birds showed up last week in my garden. I hope they were not disappointed with the red petunias.. I know that the pentas and the hybiscus made them happy last year. You are a lovely person, you do know that.

Love,
Betty

Betty...

They haven't showed up here yet, I'm
waiting so I can photograph them, I'm thinking
of doing a photography book. I planted several
plants to attract them plus I have two feeders,
I only use natural sugar , no dyes..

Dear Joe,
A hummingbird calendar would be lovely. You could put it on your web site and sell it there. Awesome!

I have not put out feeders for the hummers, just the flowers. They are quick! I think their favorite flowers are the hibiscus and the pentas....well any trumpet shaped flower makes them happy.

Love,
Betty

Dear Joe,
I was talking to a lady today who said that the nectar had to be changed every four days because it gets too hot. What do you know? I thought of freezing some of the nectar and plopping a cube of it in the feeder during the heat of the day, but it does sound a bit too much. Any thoughts? Here it is close to 90 in the day now.

Love,
Betty

Betty..

Here it's June 1st and no Hummingbirds !
This week it's going to be hot, hot here 85 to 95 !
I don't know which is worse severe Winter or severe
Summer....I usually take filtered water and add three
to four teaspoons of sugar warm it up to dissolve and
let it cool off....

Speaking of hibiscus, I looked for this snapshot when you first posted this back in April, but couldn't fined it. I came across it today while I was looking for the vacation pic of me and my brother.

It was taken in my back yard in Houston during the early 90's after my mom moved in with me. I had to snap it for posterity. She was washing the leaves of the hibiscus plants because she liked them shiny.
