Short story collections on Kindle Empty
PostSubject: Short story collections on Kindle   Short story collections on Kindle EmptyMon Mar 01, 2010 1:33 pm

I just got finished compiling a lot of my short stories into collections, and they went live on Kindle today. I put four or five stories into each collections, designed new covers for them, and I've already got a few downloads.

I also edited, again, the two Harpe books that were published by PA, designed new covers for them as well, and they are also available.

Each of the books and the shorts collections are reasonably priced, and I tried to put a bit of variation in each one, so now all I can do is wait and see how they do.

The names of the collections are:

THE FIRE FELL FROM HEAVEN COLLECTION
THE KILLING FROST COLLECTION
THE DEMON COLLECTION
THE ANGEL IN AMBER COLLECTION

And I put Stormchild: Awakening into book form, and offered it there as well.

If you have a Kindle reader, and want to sample a couple, I'm pretty sure you find something you'll like.

Hi Don,

Would you like to do an interview on Literature & Fiction?

Erma Odrach had a very successful giveaway contest on the blog.

Great, Don!

I've been looking into this, too. I plan to put the vampire parody onto e-book formats soon.

This Kindle thing...hmmm...I still prefer a print book, but there's no denying the spreading appeal. Of course, it will be like everything else--when I get one, I will be the newest cheerleader. I'm sure.

You beat me to it - did you include any stories that came from Amazon Shorts? Also, what about putting the collections up on smashwords so they are available in other ebook formats?

DK, I used all of my Amazon Shorts stories. except those I wrote with Eugen Bacon. I'm currently working on the Smashword format.

Rhett, I love print books also, but unless they find their way onto the shelves at book stores, we don't stand much of a chance of selling very many. With the Kindle format at least I think I can generate some interest, and hopefully some sales. A lot of these were pretty successful in the Amazon Shorts program, so I'm optimistic.

Shelagh, sure, just email me and let me know what I need to do and when. edonharpe@comcast.net

E. Don,

I am so glad to hear of your accomplishments.
Was it difficult to get your book rights returned?

I am wondering if my book has fizzled. For the first time I received 0 royalties.

Best of luck with those collections. It's always cool when our work finally goes live.

Alice, I've always gotten a royalty from PA, but I have enough sense to know that if the books were in bookstores, the checks would be a lot better. I tried to get the price of my PA books reduced, using the theory that a lower price might generate more sales, but they wouldn't budge. I agree with those that say that PA's business model is to sell to their authors, but so far I've bought a grand total of 10 copies of my books, so they're aren't making much off me. I used PA to get the two Harpe books on the market in hopes that they would help sell a script I'd written. I needed the first book out fast, and PA surely did that. They lived up to the contract I signed with them, and I completely understood what I was signing. At the time it was a good choice. I won't use them anymore, but I don't regret making the choice I made.

The problem with so many of the anti PA people is that they think everyone has the same motivation as they have, and it just isn't so. I tried to explain that a couple of times, but didn't find anyone with enough sense to understand what I was talking about. The bunch of half assed would be writers that were trying to tell me what I should do don't have enough combined talent to write something that even PA would publish, so I finally gave up on them. No use trying to get someone to understand something that they simply can't comprehend.

My next book is already signed with another small independent publisher, and there's been some interest in the next two. I'll just keep plugging away in my own fashion, and hope that the other would be writers will someday figure out there's more than one way to do things. I won't hold my breath until they do, cause they're not a very bright lot.
