Problem with my book Empty
PostSubject: Problem with my book   Problem with my book EmptyTue Feb 09, 2010 10:32 pm

Hi all
In my book there are three Edwards and three Henrys.......
Edward IV's name comes up often in the book.
Must I use Edward IV everytime his name comes up or just Edward?
The same with Henry VI...............
I have used Edward IV and Henry VI up to now, but it looks a little clumsy.
Any thoughts, anyone......

I would say you only need to use it when it would be confusing if you didn't. And then, you might be able to use different ways of defining which monarch you're talking about: the seventh Henry, the first Tudor, Edward, the boy king, etc.

Did any of them have Nicknames that they may have also been known by. If they did then that may be one way to cut down the use of their real name and monicker.

Luigi,
I think Ann's suggestion is good. As long as the reader is not confused. Nicknames, if any, would also be helpful as suggested by thehairymob. When in doubt, use the correct titles.

Hi Guys and Dolls
Thanks! Great advice.......I'll go through the book again and check where it is necessary to use the VI or IV.
I suppose Henry VI could be called the loony King as he was mentally unstable. Problem with my book Icon_eek Problem with my book Icon_eek
I don't know if Edward IV had a nickname but I'll do some research........Ted Problem with my book Kopfschuettel
Henry VII was easy......I've called him by his real name Harri Problem with my book 492623
