These are all done in Photoshop. I did them to show the progression of civilization from wilderness through the rise and glory of empire and on to ruin and abandonment and the ultimate return to wilderness. Showing the ultimate triumph of nature over even the greatest of empires.

Thomas Cole did a series on the same theme in the 1830's. Different style and techniques, but your series does a good job of catching the same sense of desolation and futility, I think.

The article has a short passage from Bryon's Childe Harold's Pilgrimage that speaks to the theme poetically

Quote :
There is the moral of all human tales;
'Tis but the same rehearsal of the past.
First Freedom and then Glory—when that fails,
Wealth, vice, corruption—barbarism at last.
And History, with all her volumes vast,
Hath but one page. 2

I've seen Cole's work. In fact, my series was in part inspired by the works of Thomas Cole. Only I did my series using my own style. Took about six hours to make the three images in my Civilization Series.

Yes, a totally different artistic concept, but equally effective in emphasizing an important theme.
