This could be a glimpse of the future.

LAREDO, Texas — The final chapter has been written for the lone bookstore on the streets of Laredo.
With a population of nearly a quarter-million people, this city could soon be the largest in the nation without a single bookseller.

If/when Laredo's demographics (poor and 94% Hispanic) and shoppers (busloads of Mexicans looking for bargains) become the demographics of the whole country, yes, it will be the future.

It's absolutely reflective of the city. If Laredo's shoppers wanted a bookstore, they'd support a bookstore.

LC, the story itself states that B&N will open a full sized store in the city when the space becomes available. The changing of B&N to close B Dalton locations has more to do with this than anything else. If B&N feels that a full sized store will work there, then the demographics are not the problem. The tone of your post is a bit harsh, to use a nice word.

If B/N will open a store there, then why the title heading, why the whole article, and why your comment that it's a glimpse of the future?

B/N isn't going to open any store there. Unless it's a Dollar Tree.
