NPR in Naples has essays every morning written by Amy Bennett Williams who also is the editor for a newspaper magazine on Sundays. Her essays are short. Today, it was about "Uncle Ben," a pepper plant she has babied since planting the seeds. As she read, I couldn't help hearing your descriptions of your animals.

If she can go on the radio with personified plants, you can write essays and go on the radio about your animals. Her essays sound much like the stories you write.

Dear DK,
Thank you for the kind thought and words. I will gladly send NPR an audio of Wooffer with a letter about your suggestion. Do you have an address or and email. Is that Naples Public Radio?

Local radio stations are few and far between anymore. It used to be that you could tune in the AM dial and find out who got traffic tickets, who had babies, what the local stores were selling, whose corn was ready to pick....important stuff like that. I wonder if the world is ready for those type of stations to make a comeback.

It seems these stations are replaced by the local flyer of the town. I can see a need for the local radio stations.

I must search about this because I am not really sure they do not now exist.

Love,
Betty

This is National Public Radio; the local version is through Florida Gulf Coast University. NPR is everywhere and usually broadcasts from a local university. Ours is through Florida Gulf Coast University. It's all talk radio and fills in with local broadcasters and local events between the nationally syndicated programming.10501 FGCU Blvd., Fort Myers, Fl. 33965

Good Idea to send a tape........

Dear DK,
I am sorry to take so long to post. I have been a little puny. I am not good at being sick. I am so seldom am ill.

Today was the first day that I could not keep up. The sun was too hot, I felt faint, and quit around 2:30. I came in and sat in the chair looking out the big window and watched the squirrels and dragonflies. It is too early for lots of birds and too hot for most everyone else.

I am proud of your accomplishments and your book signings, all you have done. It is not a little task to take your own books on and try to make anyone notice.

Sometimes it just takes only one person to deride your efforts and make you feel as if you have wasted time and you begin to doubt your own worth.

Keep true to your own self. You will make it.

Love,
Betty

Betty,

Take care of your health. There is only one of you.

How right you are. The French diplomat on the PAMB board told me no one would care to read my book. Then she complained when I got an award and wondered where hers was, it was too funny.

Betty,

We aren't putting pressure on you and certainly want you to take care of your health.

But. . .we are saying your writing is excellent.

Love, Carol

For a long time now I have been listening to Amy Bennett's essays in the morning and thinking about Betty.

Betty, I'm sorry to hear you have not been feeling so well today. This Florida weather can get to you after a while.

I think there are people so bent on their own values and beliefs that they don't realize there are other ways to do things. They have to put others down to validate their own set of rules. I would rather work toward a dream that doesn't come true than have no dreams.

Dear Alice,
Hahahaha. The French Diplomat! I loved that.

I try not to take myself too seriously. I have never even considered that my work would make me a famous author. I think it would scare me half to death if someone should call me and say they would like to take my book and do the voodoo that they doo so well.

Love,
Betty
