Our E. Don Empty
PostSubject: Our E. Don   Our E. Don EmptyFri Sep 04, 2009 4:30 pm

I have been reading the Dinks.
We all have a story to tell if we wanted to tell, but E. Don has done it with humor and pathos and not one little bit of self pity. Told it like it was and with a certain humor, too.

I will have more to say later.

Love,
Betty

You know Alice, E. Don has written lots of stories. What impresses me is the Finn quality and outlook of his memories.

Reading Huckleberry Finn, one is struck by the independence of the child.

Dick says he was set loose at four. I believe it to be true. Not one person wondered where I was, either, and it did not seem remarkable at the time. I swandered the city dumps and scavanged for pop bottles. A pop bottle redeemed for one cent. Rats were almost as big as we were.

I digress. I just wanted to say that E. Don's work winds around the heart and takes you back a few years.

Love,
Betty

I wish I had been turned loose at four. We lived out in the middle of nowhere.

I was left at home by myself sick with whooping cough at eight My Dad was working somewhere on our 140 acres. I was never to go out of calling distance. In other words my folks went where they wanted to go, when they wanted to--my brother and I were to be at home when they wished to locate us.

I would have loved to be ignored. At mealtime I would have enjoyed it if no one took note of what I ate.

I wish I could have had some control over my life.

I have been "cleaning out my email," and have kept ten messages from E. Don with his writing and comments. He can write some beautiful stories.

I agree, Don's stories of the Rinky Dinks are beautifully written.
