A writer is one who gathers information, and has the skills of an English Teacher. Good grammar, spelling, and punctuation…nothing will be sophomoric.
Writers can be found in the field of news reporting, recording of such things as history.

Story Tellers on the other hand invent worlds of wonder. Their imagination is free to carry the reader to the far reaches of outer space, sail aboard a pirate ship, dance, love, and war with Kings and Queens. Reach across time…story tellers free the readers mind.
Sophomoric? Yeah, a story tell has freed the child within…just ask Peter Pan.

Writers, and Story Tellers, mix as well as oil and water.

Ciao

Domenic, you said:

"A writer is one who gathers information, and has
the skills of an English Teacher. Good grammar, spelling, and punctuation…nothing will be sophomoric.
Writes can be found in the field of news reporting, recording of ..."

Did you mean "Writes" or "Writers"

Domenic,

I think writers and story tellers mix quite well and are often the same people.

I think you might not have gotten quite what you expected here, but not everyone does.

My concerns for you are regarding expectations. Many here have not found rave reviews for their work, and also have disagreed with others. Sometimes feelings are hurt, but we are pretty resilient in that regard.

I liked what you said about story tellers. Add to that some English teacher skills and keep working and something might happen, but then again it might not. We just never know.

Carol

I agree with the replies of all of you.

And I've actually done both.

I've been a writer. Won numerous awards in Journalism in high school, including qualifying for state in competition.

I've had quite a few articles published in newspapers (my first paid pieces!) and was editor for a 30+ page homeschooling newsletter.

But I prefer the storyteller side of me. I'd rather hang out with the elves, fairies, and my inner child.

Story telling sounds more like a fun time activity, whereas 'writing' has that ring of commercialism, working to tight deadlines and set briefs, and other things designed to satisfy profit motives rather than one's heart's desires.

I like to think I'm more of a storyteller
