| To pursue happiness, is never to find it. There is a good mix of things written on this thread that caused happiness. Appreciating what one has or what one does can bring happiness. It is not something one can invent. |

| A funny thing happened over the weekend. In the last month my hair has become thin and gray. I've taken to wearing hats and found it is kind of happy to do so. Anyway, I was talking about my hair turning gray, and my daughter, sister-in-law and daughter-in-law were shocked, "You mean you didn't color your hair? You mean your hair was really light brown?" It was, but I never really thought much about it. That just makes me laugh and makes me happy for some reason. Sometimes happiness comes for no reason at all. Carol |

| It can come from the funniest of things Carol - this weekend I was looking for hair dye close to you old colour - mine doesn't tend to come in grey, but is sure getting wiry in a few spots! I am looking at the box on my cupboard and kind of giggling, thinking of your new natural colour, which looks great by the way! |

| I would say my hair is graying, but now that the gray out numbers the brown, I guess I am gone from going to being. Anyway, I have an 87 year old friend whose hair is coal black. He is accused of dying it, but I know it's natural. His 63 year old son has coal black hair too. However my wives hair color was Nice and Easy # 110. I don't know any men that color their hair, but I'm sure there are a few. After watching my wife and daughter, it looks like too much trouble. Larry |

| I don't color my hair. I'm told that the grey around the sideburns make me look distinguished. At least I can look distinguished, eh? |

| Carol, the music jam piece was wonderful to read. I think your 'cabin journal' is a brilliant idea.
Hair coloring is a real pain, whether done in a salon or at home. I colored my hair for quite some time, as I grayed at the temples and looked like I had 'skunk streaks', without gray anywhere else. When the gray became more wide spread, I gave up dying. Now I still have the prominenet streaks, but there is more of the gray stuff scattered throughout.
You're right, Larry. It is a pain in the @ss to keep up!
Pam, I think the wiry hair is the beginnings of gray. Mine is coarser in the gray spots.
Abe, you are so right. A little gray at the temple does make men look more distinguished. Mine looked odd, and now that there is more of it, I just look like someone's grandmother! |

| I look like someone's grandmother too, Zada. I think I'll keep the grey. I'm getting used to looking in the mirror and seeing my mother, my grandmother, etc. My mother had gorgeous white hair. When I would push her in her wheel chair I'd sometimes run my fingers through it and tell her how beautiful it was. Zada, I was working on The Cabin Journal before I got sick. It is written in eight years of journal books, by whoever used the cabin. I need to edit and select the best. Some are humorous and most make a person happy!!! Then what? That is what is keeping me from writing right now. But thinking about working on it does bring me happiness and gives me a project for the next week we're going to spend at the cabin where the journals are located. Now, that place makes me happy! | Happiness is a choice. It is choosing to enjoy life. It is choosing to be thankful for what we DO have. It is choosing to see the good in others. It is choosing to see the beauty in our surroundings. It is choosing to laugh and love.
It is finding the joy in climbing a tree ... according to the song from "You are a Good Man Charlie Brown":
I'm so happy That little red haired girl dropped her pencil It has teeth marks all over it She nibbles her pencil She's human It hasn't been such a bad day after all
Happiness is finding a pencil Pizza with sausage Telling the time
Happiness is learning to whistle Tying your show for the very first time Happiness is playing the drum in your own school band And happiness is walking hand in hand
Happiness is two kinds of ice cream Knowing a secret Climbing a tree
Happiness is five different crayons Catching a firefly, setting him free Happiness is being alone every now and then And happiness is coming home again Happiness is morning and evening daytime and nighttime too For happiness is anyone and anything at all that's loved by you
Happiness is having a sister Sharing a sandwich Getting along
Happiness is singing together when day is through And happiness is those who sing with you Happiness is those who sing with you
Happiness is morning and evening daytime and nighttime too For happiness is anyone and anything at all that's loved by you.
Your a good man Charlie Brown.

| I love your picture Marie, and the poem JoElle. And what has made me happy today is that my blood test for cancer cells is down to 275!! Last September it was 1300. Scary. Normal is 38, but the doctor says I probably won't get to normal, but I am at a good level of remission, they are treating this as a chronic condition, and I don't have to go back to the doctor until July!!!! Love you all. You all make me happy and this place makes me happy!! Carol |

| Carol, that certainly qualifies for "happiness." It gets back to the question of what happiness means. It means different things to different people. Our happiness becomes personal. |

| Carol,
Your latest news is truly happy! And what a "happy" thread this is!
I agree with JoElle's poem--happiness is a choice! I choose happiness over the opposite every day. |

| True. I like both feet on solid ground so I'd prefer being a piano tuner. Watching them hoist those guys up on one of those tall towers at Fort Benning led me to believe they didn't have to be nuts but it certainly would have helped. It definitely was not the job for a guy who hates high places. Those things like the side of a ship where you had to climb 50 feet up a cargo net and then back down again were enough for me. As I've said before, I can't think of a single reason why anyone would jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I'm glad it was you and not me. |

That is what my pilot husband has said also.
I am glad you made it through all those jumps, Don, and I'm glad you are here.
Stuff like this makes me happy.
