| OK, you pushed me into it. (Edited to include a new verse)
THE BALLAD OF DON AND DICK
(Sung to the tune of Frankie and Johnny)
Don and Dick are two writers,
Both of them are bad to the bone
Don writes about his army days,
And Dick writes of guys gone wrong,
They’re on the board, and we know them well.
Don used to jump out of airplanes
Nobody knows just why
Most of us think the only reason to jump
Was if it were falling out of the sky
But he’s on the board, and we know him well.
Dick was once in the army
He was once on foreign shores
But he came home in just one piece,
And he ain’t going back no more.
Now he’s on the board, and we know him well.
They have a friend named Alice
There's Shelagh and Zada and Ann
But the gal named Brenda is the one to blame
That this song done got out of hand
They’re all on the board, and we know them well.
There’s Carol and Marie and Ahad
Abe and Lin and the Forest Elf
They’re all better than the average writer
And I guess I am myself.
We’re all on the board, and we like it there.
Now I’ve been a poet and writer
For a good many years of my life
My name is Harpe and I’m pretty sharp
To write a song under this much strife
But I’m on the board, and they know me well.
Yeah Don and Dick are writers
And so are all of the rest
But I’ll stay down south cause I don’t want to end up
In some damn big birds nest,
Yeah, I’m on the board, but I’m done for now.
Well I guess my song ain't finished
I guess my song ain't through
I should've put in DT, Woofer and Betty
Should've put in D. K. and Brew,
Cause they're on the board, and we know them well.

Sing it on American idol and we will all be rich and famous.
We inspired you. There will be a stampede for our books. |

| Nope, not too hard at all. In fact, I've already taken care of it. Check the last verse again. Sorry about that my friend. |

| You apologize to two guys? You should apologize to the world. As for Don's song, if it doesn't rise to the top of the charts it will prove there ain't no justice in the world. |

| I missed out a few too, Alice, but I don't have Don's flair to add another verse. Maybe someone else could have a go? |
