| Yesterday was not great.
We got a call from Father-in-law's doctor. Ninety-two year old, 12 year stroke survivior, World war II veteran (served in France) has apparently had anoother stroke and is neairng his end.
We were shocked at the cost to put him to rest. It cost $5000.00 for a double plan to place thieir cremated remains on their plots The cremations will be additional.
I said to Dave, " Sure glad we got our chairs, before this emergency arose."
I feel bad about his dad, but we really lost him 12 years ago with the first stroke.

| Alice,
I am sorry to hear about your father-in-law, and know the feelings about when those losses occur, often gradually over time, until the final end.
Check for a life insurance policy. My mother told me she had no life insurance, but in her archives I found an old policy she had taken out in 1930 and it was still legitimate. The policy was originally for a couple of hundred dollars, and she paid when their insurance man came to their door every couple of weeks. It had grown to $10,000. That money was divided up between her funeral expenses, lawyer fees, a small amount to the administrator and then the county that had paid for her stay in the nursing home. Her funeral expenses were $4700. My father's ashes had a little space in in the garden of their church and my mother's ashes joined his.
I will be thinking of you and your husband.
Love ya, Carol |

| Carol,
They have no life insurance. You are in a more reasonable location considering buriels.
Forty some years ago, My moher-in-law's only child, an eighteen year- old was lost in a motorcycle accident.
She buried him in a beautiful, prestigious cemetary. She also got two extra plots. Over the last 42 years she has told us that they can go at any time. She has reiterated over and over what they want.,
We had no idea that the people would charge so much for placing ashes on a plot.
It is very involved the ashes must be placed in a contaner and not just any container will do. The urn is not sufficient--they even wanted us to have their services for a Memorial.
There is no point--no one is alive to come. You just gave me an idea however, I will have the arrmy come and bring a flag--The Taps can be played also. |

| Alice,
That is a very good idea. It is beautiful and not expensive. My brother wanted the street in front of the church blocked off for the ceremony, since he had been in the Army for 20 years. But the police chief said that was not necessary. And it made it even more meaningful as cars came by and stopped out of respect to view this beautiful ceremony. My brother had also requested a bag piper and this added a great deal.

| Today we are leaving on a six week trip, first to Virginia, then to Northern Florida and then a month in Hilton Head South Carolina. I never thought I'd make it on this trip, but my bags are packed, and some are already in the car. The problem is I'm so excited I can't sleep. I feel like a kid going to Disneyland. We love to wander and our only instructions from medical personnel are to get out of the car and walk frequently and have a good time. I had to reach a certain level of mobility before embarking on this trip, and I made it!! And your support has helped!!! So if you don't hear from me often, I'm in the car, or visiting, or enjoying warmth after a cold winter in Wisconsin. Carol |

| Carol, I'm happy for you. I can picture you and Ken making your way with his navigation system guiding you. But, make sure you follow that good advice of getting out frequently to stretch your legs and walk a bit. You're not in a rush so enjoy the sights and the trip. |

| Alice, thanks. I really blew that. Yes, it is Tom. Carol, please accept my apology for the slip. Don't let Tom read this thread or he may begin to ask unwarranted questions. |

| Abe,
Funny! It was merely a Senior Moment--at least you waited until 70 to have one--I think I have had them since birth. |

| Alice, a Senior Moment, eh? Seems I'm having a lot of them lately. Wonder why Dick doesn't have any. He did call me a youngster. Dick, when I grow up will those moments go away? |

| I only have senior moments when they are to my benefit. They don't go away, you just have to use them wisely. They do come in handy when you need an excuse for your behavior. |

| Very funny, Abe. He doesn't even look like someone named Ken. You were right about the navigation system. We are now 788 miles from our daughter's doorstep according to our GPS in the car! TOM even put in the route to the restaurant where we were going to eat dinner, and we could see the sign from the hotel. Okay, Abe, you can blame Ken on a senior moment. I like how Dick says they can be excuses for behavior. I'll have to remember that. Carol |

| My mom is still visiting, and we laugh often. Laughter makes every day beautiful. My writing is also picking up speed with the release of The World Outside the Window anthology and next, Romance of My Dreams anthology with my short story, "The Ice Storm," and by next fall, Ghost Orchid, a novel of mysteries in exotic locations resolved through love, hate and redemption. I'm keeping mother busy reading.........she's a fan. |
