A Panhandle Hook on the way Empty
PostSubject: A Panhandle Hook on the way   A Panhandle Hook on the way EmptyTue Jan 27, 2009 9:28 am

Pam will be pleased to know that here in the Western Reserve we are not expecting any Alberta Clippers in the near future. Instead we are due to be hit by a Panhandle Hook about five this afternoon. The bad stuff is supposed to stay farther south and all we'll get up here in the Territory is five to eight inches of snow - nothing to cause problems. Still, you never can be sure about those Hooks that are the fault of Texas and Oklahoma.

All in all my favorite month (all that holiday nonsense being out of the way) has been an easy one. Nothing truly big, but enough light snows to keep the ground covered. Only one day when it hit 14 below zero so we can't even complain about cold weather. A pleasant January so far. Hope it's been the same for everyone.

I told you, Alice. That phony pretense that goes with what people call "the holidays" is over and things are back to normal. December is enough to gag a maggot.

Very carefully, I'm sure. Yet I've never tried either.

The recorded temperature in SA right now is about 70 degrees. I have to leave the house in an hour or so, and am being warned by local weather to take a heavy coat. The temperature about 10 miles north of me is currently 45 and dropping. The Balcones Escarpment crosses over the northern side of the city, and along it, the northern most line Coastal Plain is separated from the southern edge of the Texas Hill Country. I live on that line. I just stepped outside, and it is cold and drizzling. The chances for snow are slim. I will probably be driving in freezing rain, if not on my way to tutoring, definitely on my way home. If we have to have such weather, why can't it snow just a little? Another few miles north and it will be. Bummer.

Sorry, Dick,

I love Christmas and want this year to fly by--I got a beautiful pre-lit white Chrsitmas tree 7.5 feet tall,

It will look so elegant against my red wall in the recroom.

January is almost gone and I will put it up in November so not far to go.

Then I will have the normal 9 foot one in the living room,

Only nine more months to go.

The only thing that has made this month tolerable to me was the inauguration.

Oh yes,and then there is my grandson's birthday--tomorrow--he will be nine.

Than on the 29th I will get new batteries.

Alice, what can I say? To each is own, I suppose. Mine is to shorten December to three hours.

But now I know who to blame for the Panhandle Hook. I blame Ann down there in Texas.

Well, I live in Florida's Panhandle, and there are plenty of hooks here. Most of them are on the end of fishing lines, and I can't say that any of them are freezing.

There's ice in the margaritas, no snow anywhere to be found, and that's exactly the way I like it.

Spent entirely too much time in Texas while I was in the Air Force, most of it in Amarillo, which is in the Texas Pahandle. It's so windy there that God tied the leaves to the trees with 20lb fishing line, and I suppose there may be a hook or two somewhere there as well.

I have no problem with December, but am partial to the summer months, when I'm pretty sure we aren't going to have frozen streets or snow on the ground.

Did I mention I don't like the cold, or snow, or ice that thinks it belongs on streets instead of in drinks where all good ice cubes should be?

Come on up here to the Western Reserve, Don, and you'll love the brisk temperatures and watching the beautiful snow come down while you sip a martini, a gibson or a glass of John Jameson's finest while sitting by the fire. I guarantee it. Well, maybe I won't guarantee it but I think you'll like it. Or tolerate it. Or do a little fancy redneck cussin'. One or the other.

Ann

Two hours after I wrote this message, as I left for tutoring, the temp had droped to 50. I worked for three hours, as I drove home, it was 35. They say we will have a hard freeze tonight.

This is supposed to be South Texas!
You guys must be frozen solid by now.
