| It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform everyone that Joe died on March 7th. I first became friends with Joe in 2005. He sent me one of his paintings. We exchanged hundreds of emails. I shall miss him enormously. |

| It is difficult to find words to express my shock and sorrow hearing about this. It was only a few days ago when Alice made a post inquiring about Joe. I recall that Joe had medical problems that he shared with us, however I was not aware that his condition was that serious. He was part of our family of authors here on this forum. The last email I had from him was an inquiry about moving to Germany where he could receive affordable medical care. He had German roots and inquired about dual citizenship. Previous posts suggested that he had difficulties paying for medical treatment. Amidst the sadness I feel is also a feeling of anger that affordable healthcare is not available in the proclaimed “richest country on earth”. In my own case, I am alive today because I live where I do and have affordable and comprehensive healthcare. The list of our friends on this forum that have departed is growing. As we age we realize that death is inevitable making each day one to appreciate. It also allows us to appreciate the friends that we have where we can share our joys and sorrows. The belief in an afterlife is comforting. How that transformation occurs remains a puzzle. I want to take this opportunity to say how much I appreciate your friendship. We don’t always agree on political or religious matters, but in the end, difference of opinion does not destroy our friendship. To Joe Barbara, I say, “Until we meet again. Thank you for your friendship” |

| What a shock! I liked Joe and loved seeing his tree and house decorations each year. This is the very last thing I would have thought of happening.
May he rest in peace until we meet again.
He gave me a darling Mickey and Minnie Mouse painting for our powder room.
Whatever will Dusty do? |

| Joe was so caring and polite. He took very good care of an incapacitated friend of his. How we will miss him.

| I do wonder about Dusty, too. I loved Joe for the person he put forth here, which I believe was his honest self. I do hope that he had people who cared for him as much as we do for him in this forum. I have been absent because of personal travesty, but Joe always had nice things to say to me about it and posted his art without regard to fame. I hope that some person who loved him can advance his art in photography aand graphics and story telling. He was one in a million. Love, Betty |

| Thank you, Alice for never forgetting me. I start coming back to this wonderful and gentle place with reading this post about our Joe Baraba. He was as gentle as a person's spirit could ever be. I do hope he is as alive in his hereafter as he was on this side of it. I cannot say that I have not suffered since my child's passing. It has been the ultimate of grief. I found that I could not really carry on my usual repartee without weeping. I needed the time to look out into the hereafter and to see if I could see her. I do believe I have accomplished that mission. It is so complicated and so intense to try to find your daughter on the other side and see her heart from your limited vision of that sphere. I have been crazy. I doubt that there is any cure for it, but I am better. Love, Betty |

| Betty, I don't see how you have survived everything. You ought to write about how to get through extreme adversity as that is what you have done. Love and admire you. |
