| History tells us that all humans originated in Africa. That being the case, all US Citizens are African Americans. Shelagh happens to be an African Englander. |

| My first name is Irish, my last name is Welsh, I lived in Scotland for twenty-six years and I'm English by birth. My maiden name is Anglo-Saxon and goes back to the time when the UK was ruled by Ancient Rome. Maybe a slave from North Africa brought here by the Romans can be found among my ancestors. Who knows? |

| My maternal great grandfather and mother emigrated to America from Ireland. My paternal great grandfather and grandmother were Ogallala Sioux. Me…I’m just a proud American. Over the millions of years and the shifting of oceans who knows for sure what the world and continents looked like. Personally I don’t care whether I’m descended from a slug that crawled out of the sea…apes or Neanderthal, I had no control over that. I’m just glad I got to live a full life and share a love. |

| Share your feelings, Don The whole point is that we originated from the same or similar source whatever or whereever that is or was. I constantly hear people identifying a person by their race when in fact there is one race and that is the human race. The pigment of our skin changed over time for various reasons We are certainly not blind and can see differences in color. It doesn't mean one shade is better than another, just different. |

| So true, Abe. What happens is that we put stereotypes of people we do not like into our thoughts about skin color. Fortunately, I have known so many wonderful people of so many different cultures that I just like a person for who they are.
My mixture is from Irish, English, Swedish and Norwegian back to my great grandparents. Beyond that, I don't know.
I watched a great documentary named "First People" or something like that tracing the human race back 200,000 years and definitely tracing back to a black mother 200,000 years ago through DNA.
I think this should be taught in all schools so that all children grow up understanding that we are one human race, none better than any other, just different because of where we migrated, the weather, the food eaten, and the lifestyle that made us all look different, just like the flowers of the earth - all different but each beautiful in its own way. If this was drummed into each child year after year, we build a global world of collaboration. A little less flag waving and a little more knowledge will go a long way.
The treatment of different races at different times as inferior builds division. |

| I was thinking. No wonder people look different from where they live. Look at the different animals and the different flowers in the varied climates. None are better than any other. All are by chance living in their location but the location has certain characteristics that are more hospitable to certain species.
As an intelligent species, we can migrate anywhere and adapt immediately with technology and clothing. Animals and plants must learn to adapt by evolving. We, too, are evolving. Look at the earlier puberty and the size of people compared to the early pioneers.
We better eat less well. Airlines are making smaller seats all the time. |

July 4th, the day subjects of the King of England turned traitor. Think of what history would be today if the traitors had failed? The traitor George Washington was losing the war. France came to the aid of the traitors, and won the war for them. It was a dark day in history for all people. If the traitors had lost, this country never would have had slaves, nor would the native peoples have been the first holocaust. On this day people should hide in shame. Now England does not want us back…we have become a lawless people. |

| Domenic, on days of celebration like the 4th of July I wonder how many celebrate the event as intended or is it just another holiday filled with good eats and drinks? Celebrating our Independence is celebrating the outcome of a war. Documentaries do not touch on the negative things you mentioned. Historians write what they know and think they know concerning the origins of the human race. I don't think that evolution is a theory and that life continues to evolve. Who knows what skin color will be in another two hundred years. Inter-racial marriage is changing skin tones and perhaps one day the color will be neutral. Climate change will also alter our appearance and way of life. Animals adapt to their environment and if we are to survive, we will also need to adapt, however we won't be around to see it. I am reminded that we are living history. Our children and grandchildren will read about our way of life just as we read about the lives of our ancestors. I wonder how we will be remembered. I think it would make an interesting fictional novel for a writer to project the future of the human race. Using the past and the present can lead to projecting probabilities with a scientific base.
On another note. Fireworks may be an exciting part of the celebration for many, however for many veterans suffering from the effects of war, it can be a horrible nightmare. At the same time, terrorists or other people with evil intent can use the sounds to cover their activity. Beware and protect yourselves during this celebration. Some people shoot their rifles into the air without thought that those bullets come back down. Getting hit with a ball of lead can seriously injure or even kill. If you are close to the fire works, keep that in mind. |
