Red Room Empty
PostSubject: Re: Red Room   Red Room EmptyTue Jul 15, 2014 6:40 am

I received a notice that they were closing their doors July 8 and that they were "moving to" Wattpad and suggesting we do the same as they had a person to assist with that move.

Well, wattpad is nothing like Redroom at all.  Redroom promptly had their redroom.com domain for sale on July 8.  They keep saying we can get to our archived material - but so far I've had no luck getting to my blogs or anything else except for a screen print that has other people's stuff on it and doesn't move.

Since they didn't sell their domain and Wattpad is nothing like Redroom, perhaps they sold their member list.  Watch out for spam?

I see very little use of Wattpad for the experienced author.  Redroom was a great idea exchange and included top authors as well as beginners and journalists.

All I see at Wattpad is that you post some chapters from some book you've written in hopes someone reading them will buy your book or post new writing to attract a following.  There are a plethora of those sites.

Do you have a better Wattpad experience?

I thought it was a very strange deal. Red Room was elitist, separating traditionally published authors from self-published authors. Wattpad is all-inclusive and is mainly used by teenagers.

Agreed.  Redroom.com was very useful for me - I had just pointed my domain to my web page there.  I have years of blogs, some of which I had considered publishing.

I found this Wattpad description at a blog:mariathermann:

Here is an updated list from Doris at Savvy Writers for all you loverly writers out there who want to promote their books. Stay clear of Wattpad, if you are a writer of anything other than teenage sex/romp/vampire/film&popstar romps and dippy fan fiction.
