He was a master of his art - one of the finest from all generations. These scenes are a couple of my favorites:
Actually, this one, from the same film, Charlie Wilson's War, is even better, but if you are offended by multiple uses of the F-word, you might not want to watch (but you are missing some super acting):

It is sad that creative people need to use chemical substances to help them cope with their lives.

It's called self destruction....Many famous people go through this, just look at Justin Bieber , if I was his parent's I'd take him out to the wood shed, then again I just heard today he and the father were on a private plane and both were smoking pot so heavily the pilots had to wear oxygen masks so the wouldn't inhale it, I predict this kid will die from an overdose of drugs before he's 24, he thinks he's above everything, you see fame only lasts for a short while, then what ? Matter of fact I read there's a petition out to have him deported because he's a bad influence on the young people , I wonder if Canada will accept him back ? It's a shame talent if any and no brains, neither does his parents have any kind of brains not to see their kid self destruct before them...

Sad? Good riddance. His habit helped finance the drug cartels and is responsible for the violence in Mexico. One worthless junkie down, a million to go.

Unfortunately addiction claims the good and the bad. The fact that people profit from another's misery is heinous.

We hear about the celebrities. They are only a small percentage compared to the nameless victims that are lost an a daily basis.

Overlooked are the folks who become dependent for a legitimate medical reason and then are cut off abruptly by their ignorant doctors.

Yes, Alice, and there have been reports - one repeat on my TV right now - synchronistically? - saying that many of these people begin with drugs like oxycontin, then switch to heroin because it is more easily available.
It is a complex problem.

For sure! I have been very fortunate to have a knowledgeable doctor or I would be in that group of scumbags.
