One of the things I learned in the navy years ago was that the military would probably be incapable of doing anything if there weren't dozens of official and unofficial acronyms and slang about everything.

While working on an upcoming book called "The Sailor," I've had fun thinking about those old slang words again.

Here's one of my posts about it: http://knightofswords.wordpress.com/2013/06/12/dont-let-the-old-salts-send-you-topside-on-mail-buoy-watch/

Enjoyed it, Malcolm.  I think each branch of the service has its own language.

Thank you, Abe. I doubt the services will ever get together and decide on standard slang. Smile

Enjoyed the blog.  I just wrote an article about Rugby, and it was like writing a foreign language.  There was a fairy tail about an old sailor that would allow his househhold help to only speak in the seafaring terms.  It was a complicated story for a fairly tale.

Now that's cool. . .the whole family using seafaring terms. Is this story available to read on line? Now I'm really curious.

Glad you like the post.
