| Interesting. Might explain a lot, when you think about it. http://news.yahoo.com/intelligence-institute-study-shows-fox-news-viewers-iq-034622242.html - Quote :
- Intelligence Institute Study shows Fox News viewers have an IQ that is 20 points lower than the U.S. National average.
Study shows that the Americans who watch Fox News have an average IQ of 80, whereas the national average is 100. Researchers were not "shocked" by findings. -------------------------------------- Researchers at The Intelligence Institute, a conservative non-profit group, tested 5,000 people using a series of tests that measure everything from cognitive aptitude to common sense and found that people who identified themselves as Fox News viewers and 'conservative' had, on average, significantly lower intelligent quotients. Fox Viewers represented 2,650 members of the test group. -------------------------------------- Test subjects who received their news from other outlets or reported they do not watch the news scored an average IQ of 104, compared to 80 for Fox News viewers. Lead researcher, P. Nichols, explains, "Less intelligent animals rely on instinct when confronted by something which they do not understand. This is an ancient survival reaction all animals, including humans, exhibit. It's a very simple phenomenon, really; think about a dog being afraid of a vacuum cleaner. He doesn't know what a vacuum is or if it may harm him, so he becomes agitated and barks at it. Less intelligent humans do the same thing. Concepts that are too complex for them to understand, may frighten or anger them." He continues, "Fox News' content is presented at an elementary school level and plays directly into the fears of the less educated and less intelligent." So, here's my question, folks. Why to the people at Fox News deliberately play to this level? |

| Ann, I think the followers of Fox News are like sheep. They follow blindly. If the lead sheep goes over a cliff, the others will follow. Fox is their shephard. |

| Fox news makes money. Period. They have found a formula to get viewers for their advertisers and ratings for their commentators. Telling the truth has no role in this entertainment venue. Unfortunately, many viewers think it is news. It is a radical right, conservative propaganda wing owned by Rupert Murdock - duh.....expect anything near the truth from such a machine? Not hardly. |

| So, people who want to feel fearful and hateful and superior by their religious beliefs, their incomes or lack thereof, or just generally looking for a culprit, are the targets of this emotionally charged presentation of half-truths and lies. They listen only to this source to reinforce their beliefs without challenge and feel good that they are the superior holders of all knowledge and all other sources of information are left-wing propaganda. That way, no thinking or comparison thinking tools are required; just quote FOX and FOX quoters and you are an immediate genius. It's like a cult; when all you hear and are surrounded by is the same set of lies, well, they sound true. Religion is a lot like that - full of repetitive lies created by men to enhance their power by tying it to God - not at all the spiritual life espoused by Jesus Christ, the humble, modest, loving person who included all humans as children of God. The pity is that they also claim to own God and patriotism, which of course is more untruths - but they put the flag on everything and God's name on the rest, with Jesus added for good measure. Thus anyone not surrounding themselves with these symbols are heathen and non-patriots. Worshipping symbols is pagan and religious, not Christian and spiritual but they missed that part of Christ's message.

| We have in Washington, D. C. what we have sent and what we allow to stay there. I would like a cushy job like that myself. Should have stayed in politics and put aside that Baptist religious upbringing when I was young and could have made mileage in a town like that. Oh, there are a lot of people who wear religious "cloaks" in that town, but their spoken beliefs are nowhere near the loving and compassion spoken by their prophet. Instead they vote for hateful legislation that separates people, encourages bigotry and prejudice and totally works against Christ - in the name of Christ. They vote against helping the poor and in favor of enriching the wealthy. They do it in the name of "economics" when the real name is "paid by lobbyists greed." They give everything the cloak of something good when in fact its roots are buckets of lobbyist money, greed and self-interest. They hold the economy hostage to protect their campaign funding and their jobs - AND WE LET THEM!!! This whole farse going on in Washington now and the new debt ceiling business could be settled in one eight hour day in any principal's meeting at any school with competing departments. We need to get the whole bunch out of D. C. There are a few who could stay - but everyone is so entangled it's hard to separate the good from the bad. |

| What's interesting is that the self-righteous and hypocrites don't see themselves that way - they see themselves as people of principle and religious faith and patriotic verve. They see everyone else as out of touch. That's why it's so hard for compromise. |

| Some people just can't let go of the fact that a news station and media conglomerate lies to the American people and they believe the lies. Some people just can't let go of the fact that a section of the American electorate has been programmed by their churches to believe whatever is tied to Christ and the flag even if it is a bold lie. Some people just can' let go of the fact that these beliefs are harmful to women, children, disabled, elderly, working poor, middle class and the economy of the U.S. as a whole.
Some people want to be sure that all people in the U.S. understand that they must go to multiple sources for information and not rely on just their church,Fox, Rush Limbaugh, Jim Beck and now the Heritage Foundation. Some people want to be sure that all people in the U.S. understand who the money power houses are: the KOCH brothers, Rupert Murdock, Casino Interests, Big Oil, Insurance Companies, AMA, unions, etc. and recognize that the interests of children have no high paid advoates, the interests of working poor have no advocates, the interests of seniors have only the AARP. Our rights will be eroded for the purpose of the big power money if we continue to allow non-elected people to control information and legislation.
Some people consider it a matter of life and death that all people have insurance, that our medicare and medicade and social security are not reduced or ages to receive them extended to the 70's - fine for the wealthy who don't depend on medicare when their jobs kick them out at 60-65.
And of course, women. It is the women of this country that suffer the most from any reductions to medicare and social security and medicaid because they are the mothers with children in need, the working poor in the lousy jobs without benefits, the old women bagging groceries because they never earned enough for a decent social security.
Yes, some people do still care about politics and use this thread to talk about it. Those not interested in the fate of legislation in this country and the false nature of the news that reaches people don't have to click on this thread. |

| I simply answered the question as to why political matters are still a concern even though the democrats won the presidency and the republicans still hold the house because of the gerrymandered districts that will never elect a democrat.
Did you ever read "The Little Prince" by Antoine St. Exupery? Well, equal rights are matters of consequence; the current debates in D.C. regarding the reductions to "entitlements" meaning "entitlements to those without a mega pac lobby" are life and death matters to many aging citizens, especially women. The real "entitlements" are the subsidies and tax breaks to the wealthy who do have powerful lobbyists like Grover Norquist.
As for sitting back with a glass of wine, I prefer dancing; but thanks for the offer.
"Nasty" refers to ideas with which you take exception. There's nothing "nasty" in any of my remarks that are intended for information and no person in particular.
