We need more than two parties

Four would be a good number, I think.

I would go for a green party, myself - one that is dedicated to saving the planet by supporting sustainability and finding safer alternatives for energy.

Does anyone else have a party they would like to see have some voting power?

I'd love to see a truly Independent party with a wide umbrella that could accommodate a range of centrist values and promote pragmatism over political ideology. Two parties almost per force lead to polarization and the kind of nonsense that we see today--from flagrant mud slinging to marginalizing and demonizing of the opposition. Most people are not at the extremes, yet we have two parties whose base ARE extremists out of touch with the wisdom and common sense of the American people. And there are almost no independents--certainly not the politicians with an I after their name in Congress who are Democrats by any other name who have personal/political reasons for running as independents.

It won't happen in my lifetime as there are too many vested interests on the right and left that will not give up their comfortable control of the process. Our present winner take all system lends itself well to only two or three parties as one needs to obtain dominance to win the executive branch. A system such as exists in much of Europe and elsewhere with a parliament and prime minister would require a Constitutional change which effectively takes it off the table as a realistic option. But a viable third party given the general mess that the Ds and Rs have brought us in the last couple of decades would be a welcomed change. It could only work if it were a truly centrist party. Alas, given the money and special interests that prop up our current two party system, good luck with that.

We need two more parties , one that's public, that

would represent the American public, the second party

would represent the seniors in this country, which now is

a large majority because of the baby boomers, I would

call this part of congress The Senior Coalition, each party

would have one member from each state and paid a salary

of $25,000- per year, no perks, no benefits, each month they

would have to report to the American public....Haven't thought

of a name for the first party...Any ideas ?....
