Will People Ever Be Judged? Empty
PostSubject: Will People Ever Be Judged?   Will People Ever Be Judged? EmptyWed May 09, 2012 6:55 pm

We have heard and we have been told not to judge people. Now, most of us understand that to judge whether a person does something right or wrong regarding their actions towards other people (murder, stealing, etc.) is part of functioning in a civilized society; without those judgments there would be anarchy.

However, what about the totality of our lives? Will we ever be judged for what we did or did not do while we lived our short lives on this planet we call earth? If so, how will that judgment take place and what will be the consequences good or bad? If not, what happens next?

According to my beliefs, everyone will give an account of their lives.
If they have accepted Jesus as their personal Saviour, His record will be substituted for theirs.
They will go to heaven and live forever. Those who refused will not be in heaven.
I do not plan to be in that group that does not go to heaven so haven't looked into hell. It's like if you are going to Tahiti, why study up on Mexico? It is a waste of time.

I came across this one some years ago. It has always resonated with me

Quote :
"It is not possible for us to know each other except as we manifest ourselves in distorted shadows to the eyes of others. We do not even know ourselves; therefore, why should we judge a neighbor? Who knows what pain is behind virtue and what fear behind vice? No one, in short, knows what makes a man,and only God knows his thoughts, his joys, his bitternesses, his agony, the injustices committed against him and the injustices he commits.
God is too inscrutable for our little understanding. After sad meditation it comes to me that all our lives, whether good or in error, mournful or joyous, obscure or of gilded reputation, painful or happy, is only a prologue to love beyond the grave, where all is understood and almost all forgiven.

I like that Ann God is the perfect judge. He made us, He knows why we do what we do.

What is the consequence for God judging us not to be worthy of Heaven?

These are not our questions to consider.

Quote :
And what there is to conquer
By strength and submission, has already been discovered
Once or twice, or several times, by men whom one cannot hope
To emulate—but there is no competition—
There is only the fight to recover what has been lost
And found and lost again and again: and now, under conditions
That seem unpropitious. But perhaps neither gain nor loss.
For us, there is only the trying. The rest is not our business.

T. S. Eliot: "East Coker," The Four Quartets

((T. S. Eliot was an Anglican Christian. The Four Quartets is a series of meditations on the symbols of Christianity which compares them with those of other major religions. The conclusions he draws fall in line with those of traditional Christianity.)

When we worry about whether or not we and/or others will be judged, and what the consequences of such a judgement might be, we are missing the whole point, which is to live out of love and acceptance. It is not an easy thing to do. All we can do in any moment is what seems best at that moment, and to assume that others are doing the same(which, for me, anyway, is the hardest part). Whenever we manage to do that, the concern about judgement becomes moot.

Just me.

Ann

We live on in the memories of those who knew us or knew of us. They will judge our actions in life. If our lives are historically significant, such judgements will find their ways into textbooks, classrooms, and folklore. History is our judge. One way or the other, the judgements mean nothing to the judged.

It doesn't matter what we think. We can think there is no hell or there is one. We are not in charge.
There either is or isn't. I don't care because I ain't going there--Heaven is my goal.

It's interesting that those commenting seem to be almost dismissive of any kind of judgment. Is that because the judgment won't apply (because of actions you have taken) or simply because you don't believe that there will be a judgment (as it appears Al does)? If it's the former, is there ever any assurance that you have done enough to make it through the judgment?

What Ann and Al said.

I don't think anyone of us can "not judge" actions of others. As for who will judge us in summary as in eternity, any answer is pure speculation. We are judged daily by those we associate with, even on this forum. How we express ourselves, how we write, our Avitar, etc. We judge, yet we are told not to judge, lest we be judged. Definition of judgement may require some clarity. Is being critical of someone or something judgement?
