You deserve to wallow.  Do whatever seems best to you.  I am sorry for your situation.
Love you no matter what.

PostSubject: Re: Ann's Joy Thread   Ann's Joy Thread - Page 33 EmptyWed Jan 28, 2015 5:09 am

I'm working on it, Shelagh.  I was in a bit of a down mood last night, I'm afraid.   A friend acquaintance gave me the "use in or lose it" lecture, saying all I needed to do was excercise more, rather than giving in to rollators and electronic grocery carts. It was only arthritis, after all, and everybody had to deal with that as they got older.

But RA isn't "only arthritis."  Arthritis is the term generally used for osteoarthritis, which is an entirely different disease.  The only thing they have in common is joint pain and the name.  The causes, treatment, and degree of damage done are completely different.

As I said the other day, one of the steps involved in dealing with it is acceptance of its reality.

I took it too seriously and was in the middle of one of those inevitable wallowing periods.

I feel more positive this morning.

And thanks again, all of you, for your support.

Ann,

Your 'friend" is no friend, she is an enemy.  Lose her.
The last thing you need now is aggravation.
I asked one of my doctors why everyone and everything made me angry.  His wise answer:  "They don't have
a clue what you've been through."

Your "friend" is ignorant and makes me mad.

Thanks, Joe. The natural remedies can be effective for osteoarthritis, but are generally less so for RA. The one exception I've found is Capsaicin. It's the stuff in hot peppers that makes them hot. I keep a tube of it handy for my knees.

PostSubject: Re: Ann's Joy Thread   Ann's Joy Thread - Page 33 EmptyThu Jan 29, 2015 7:15 am

It's Thursday again.  Tonight's dinner is being put together from several online searches.  I started with looking for a new recipe for pork tenderloin, preferably in a crockpot.  Found this one.  It was especially nice for me since it didn't call for browning the tenderloin first, so I didn't have to stand over the stove:
http://addapinch.com/cooking/balsamic-pork-tenderloin-recipe/

Next, Lynn loves Brussel's sprouts, and this salad sounded perfect (I'm making her alternative recipe, which calls for mandarin oranges and pecans rather than pumpkin seeds to go with the sprout leaves and avocado):
http://www.wholeliving.com/191987/brussels-sprout-salad-avocado-pumpkin-seeds

And last, that pork recipe just shouted ot baked sweet potatoes to me.  Here is the prep I'm using tonight for baking them in the microwave. (I've done this before, and found it works as well as the oven, and our temp this afternoon is supposed to reach 80.  Beside, they will cook in 5 minute as opposed to an hour or more.):

Oops! lost the page.  I'll save so I don't lose this and add it.

Ahh! Found it:

alj,

Well kid…hold your mud. When I was younger the kids had a saying,   “Live hard, fast, and die young and  beautiful.”  If they had told me pain went with age, I would have followed their advice.

I turned the corner of 79 last month.  My doctor feels he can keep my heart going until I’m 80. I told him that wasn’t long enough to get a New York publisher!   Truth be told, just learning how to write fiction was a joy.  I hear you’re having your brain rebuilt?  Take my advice; Get an Italian doctor. They know just the spot to probe…they can change your speech from English to Italian. Better yet, they can have you talking the Queen’s English.  All kidding aside; Do what you do best…it’s all a part of the trip.

Hey, Dom. Don't worry about the typos in that last post. Typing from a bed leads to them. They did a great job oon my head. This hospita is one of the best and the staff is great. Right now I'm just waiting for an empty bed in the proper wing and I'll have a better setup. Test results for next step shouldd be available soon. Weird luck - was headed from car into house when my knee collapsed from the RA. Landed on my head on concrete drive, went to emergency room and found I had a contusion and bleed. No biggie but they ran tests and found a pre-existing lesion. If my knee hadn't failed, I wouldn't have known and it could have become worse. Having some follow-up testing done. Will keep everyone up.

Dear Annie,
I have worried about you all day and felt helpless to help and not knowing how to express how much you have meant to me in the past years.  Please get well.  I love you with all my heart.

I  hope you have help when you go home.  Change your pillow cases daily.  Wear a cotton scarf tied loosely over your head. When it scabs over, do not scratch or pick at it
Love you and wish we lived closer.
