I got my first rejection today. Ever. That means I'm a real author now. The first agent I queried popped on me. And it only took her one day to do it.

Actually I got a rejection once before. But it was when a publisher coaxed me out of retirement to update a book, then decided they didn't want to do it after all. I don't think that counts. So I got a reversion of rights and published it on the kindle. Just got posted today. Check out that cover.

You've only gotten your first rejection now? Welcome to the club, grasshopper.

I have had a good last six months. Two acceptances in those six months.

Yep, and I've been publishing books since 1986. I really feel proud, now, like I've been admitted to some kind of esoteric society.

Abe, the paid ad at Kindle Nation Daily includes one of your reviews of Ghost Orchid that also names one of your books. Hope it benefits you a bit.

I used to save my rejection slips to use as bookmarks. But now many publishers send rejectograms via email and it just isn't the same.

Hey, Al, on the bright side, you got your rejection in a day. I thought agents usually kept authors waiting a year before they rejected them. So the quick turnaround has to count for something. lol

Your book is about the Kennedy assasination, right, or some tangent off it? I'm sure it's well-written and very good, but just wondering -and don't take this the wrong way!- why do you think today's audience is interested in that subject? I doubt you could find anyone under 40 who even knows who the Kennedys are anymore, much less cares about them.

As we approach the 50th anniversary of the assassination, interest in it and all the zany conspiracy theories will grow. The media will see to that. I think many under 40 have been exposed to the endless documentaries that take apart all the theories piece by piece. So they know about it. Are they interested? I hope so. And there are lots of readers over 40, too.

I expect to find myself in a kiosk at Dealey Plaza on November 22, 2013, signing books. I hope it doesn't rain.
