Now I know the Govt. is nuts ! Geithner wants to raise the national debt from 14 trillion dollars to a higher figure, we're in a deep hole now, time to fire these idiots and put someone in who knows what their doing... Cut military spending, cut the space program, cut foreign aide that's used by other countries for political purposes, cut all congressmen salaries by 25% , put a large tariff of 25% on all imported goods, no more bailouts including cities and states let them default......
Cheers..Joe |

| "Raising the national debt" is a legal term that keeps the U.S. from going bankrupt in the world economy. The U.S. may not go bankrupt. There is no other choice but to raise the national debt limit regardless of who is in that position. If anyone says otherwise, it is because they do not properly tell the entire story about world economic markets and the terminology and implications of that terminology. Discussion in this regard is just more scare stuff to stir up emotions from people who have partial facts. |

| I guess the best way to explain it is a credit card with a ceiling of $10,000. You spend $10,100. They cancel the card or they raise your debit limit to $10,100. You still spent it. Raising the debt limit doesn't change the expense, just the terminology.
We were into this debt hole long before the new administration due to the war effort first when all gates were opened to spend, spend, spend after the 911 situation in New York. Once the flood gates opened, nothing stopped the spending.
Blame is a political word. The goal is create a jobs climate that adds to the economy during a time when people in this country don't know when their next meal may be nonexistent.
The only reductions that will not be paid for in other disastrous scenarios are reductions in armaments, space exploration, entrenched subsidies to the agricultural megacomplex and other special interest industries, raising the taxes on automobiles and fuel for automobiles so that people choose public transportation, cutting tax breaks for the wealthy along with other tax breaks on weird investment strategies, taxing outsourced jobs to other countries, and more.
Touching healthcare, social security and services to those in need during these horrible economic times is inhumane and disgusting, a sure sign that those making decisions are not hungry and unemployed nor have any idea of the desperation people are feeling.
Any time wasted on "illegal aliens" is such a red herring at this time that it's not worth discussing. They have nothing to do with the desperate economic situation or the national debt. They kept our lifestyle less expensive for years. We owe them, especially for the cheap food on our tables. What we spend on their needs is a pittance compared to the rampant general waste in earmarks, subsidies, tax breaks and continued corporate windfall profits while the economic downturn is used as an excuse to expect more productivity from fewer workers.
They are still building megamansions at Barefoot Beach in Naples, Florida. The boom is on. The wealthy are still building on the beach and destroying the habitat for everyone else, locking their gates to the Gulf to keep their private domains of excess "safe" from the riffraff, the common folk who service them.
The country is nearly evenly split on its opinions regarding the economy, healthcare, the national debt and other critical issues. The only mandate is not a Democratic or Republican one except for those intent on creating their political careers. The mandate is one: JOBS |
