| I can't believe it. My kids are middle aged people. I am getting old--63 already!
Is anyone else wondering where the time went? I thought I would be young forever. Even my friends are getting old.
Surprising? |

| Where I'm feeling the passage of time is at my workplace. Many of the people I started working with 20 years ago are retired or dead. I'm old guard now. |

| LC,
Dead, that is a bummer! Old is bad enough. |

| I find myself saying it more all the time: I'm 67. I say it with pride. D**n. I got here. I may not look as good as I did, or move as fast, but I made it this far.
And yes, time is accelerating faster and faster.

| I am glad to be in such good company.
Joe, I wish I felt as young as I look.
David,
I like the brake idea, just wouldn't know when to apply it. Which part of your life would you iike to relive?
Ann,
You look great to me and sound even greater! |

| It has taken me 40something years to get to where I am.
So far it's been going about 24 hours a day. |

| I have earned every laugh line, every worry line, every ripple and dimple. I wish I had the energy I used to have, but I don't mind a good nap. I wish I had the fantastic vision I used to have, but like the soft-focus effect when I look in the mirror. I have more to write about because I have experienced more. I have more compassion because I have felt more love, more pain. All in all, it's not such a bad trade-off. |

| I see my life in chapters. The foster-care years; the jet-set early marriage and family years; the trapped years; the sailing years; the settling in years; the resigned years. Each chapter had a romance formula: all was well, all went wrong, a hero arrived, happy for the moment. This present chapter is in the "all went wrong" phase - so the hero is just around the bend :-)
No, it hasn't seemed to go by fast or slow. I do identify with the workplace issues, though. I no longer have references; they are long retired and disappeared or passed on. As for family, I had several sets of parents and quasi-parents and all that's left is my biological mom. My dad, foster dad and stepfather are gone; my stepmom and foster mom are gone. Each played significant roles in my life and their passing is a painful loss. Once all parents (and I had more than usual, I think) are gone; we are truly set free - and that very freedom is a reminder of our own mortality. |

| It becomes a challenge and responsibility when you no longer have role models, but are looked upon as one. I never felt so old and yet so young during my most recent visit with my grandchildren. |

| I cannot believe I made it this far in life. I look on each day as a beautiful gift.
But it has not been alone.
Love, Carol |

| Dear Carol, I think of you every day. I am glad you feel better. Living is spent in seconds and minutes and hours, days and weeks, years. God bless the minutes. God bless the seconds. I wish that we were aware of the seconds of our life when we were children. But, you know, if we had been, we would not have lived the life that we did. I imagine that is the great plan. that the seconds do not matter, the minutes are too small for the grandness of the experience of living. Life is the prize. We struggle to keep ahold on it. Hold on, my friend. Love, Betty |
