| 12/1/2010 Merry Christmas... What are you planning to cook for Christmas Dinner ? Me, I haven't decided yet, I don't want to see turkey for a long, long time ! I remember one year in New York when I was living there a neighbor and friend ( She's 97 now and still friends,) decided I should cook a Christmas Goose, was that expensive ! I didn't like it , it was too greasy ! Maybe I'll make Filet Mignon or Lamb ? Oh yes, my famous Cherry Torte desert... Cheers...Joe.... |

| I'll be spending Christmas on the outer banks of North Carolina, where Dave's father-in-law has a vacation home. Dave is in charge of dinner, has said it will be traditional, and that he will let me help. Traditional Christmas for us usually means turkey with cornbread dressing, sweet potatoes, and whatever green vegetable looks freshest while we are shopping, usually green beans, broccoli, or Brussels sprouts. Sometimes we make the cranberry sauce ourselves, with fresh cranberries and orange marmalade; sometimes we just go with the jellied stuff in a can. I'm not sure which I like best. Dessert will be pies - pumpkin, buttermilk, cherry, and apple are all possibilities. We will likely pop the champagne a bit before we eat, and for that we will usually have crudites and hummus or herbed yogurt.

| We'll probably have Christmas sushi. I'm sick of turkey and don't really want to cook, anyhow. |

Alice..
By watching my step-father, cooking shows, reading recipe magazines. Click on the above post it has the dessert recipe. I also learned several years ago by watching the CIA cooking show on PBS ( Culinary Institute Of America) if you take medium size red potatoes and use an apple corer go half way up the potatoe with the corer and then while it's inside the potatoe you take a paring knife and go around the middle of it, gently twist the bottom of the potatoe and it should come off and you have a mushroom potatoe to serve your guests...
Cheers..Joe

| We will have a smorgAasboard of crackers, cheeses, little do dads from here to there that do not take any cooking and not much cleaning up after. For us it is not a hog fest like Thanksgiving. It is all about the children, the presents, the football, the old movies, and naps in the late afternoon.
Love, Betty |
