History of Medicine Empty
PostSubject: History of Medicine   History of Medicine EmptyMon Aug 23, 2010 7:30 am

Just had to share this one:

from DIVINE NOURISHMENT
A Woman’s Sacred Journey with Food
by Mary Lane

The History of Medicine:

2000 B.C. Here, eat this root.
1000 A.D. That root is heathen. Say this prayer.
1850 A.D. That prayer is superstition. Drink this potion.
1940 A.D. That potion is snake oil. Swallow this pill.
1985 A.D. That pill is ineffective. Take this antibiotic.
2000 A.D. That antibiotic is artificial. Here, eat this root.

I like it, Ann.
It's much like medical opinion today. What is good or bad for us changes constantly.

Right now the rage is to take CO-Q-10 and fish oil. It is so popular that CO-Q-10 is 26 dollars a bottle of 30 at the Walmart.

Fish oil pills make me burp fishy all day.

I decided that I would see if I felt worse if I did not expend this money or take these pill, if the blood tests I get every 3 months registered any adverse effects.

I see no difference in my well being, do not burb fishy and the tests are the same. I consider that it is a bunch of kickback hoopla that doctors get to prescribe these things. I would take them if my insurance would cover the expense, but it will not.

Love,
Betty

Betty,

Try flaxseed oil instead of the burpy fish stuff. It's an omega-3 oil that has no smell. If you don't want to take it in pills, you can buy the oil (keep it in the fridge) and add it to your salads. Or you can eat bread with flaxseeds in it.

I've been taking chocolatey vitamins containing vitamins I desperately need. I can't take the regular vitamins as they are too large and I tend to choke on them, so my friendly, knowledgeable pharmacist and a few others recommended these chocolate wonders.

I'll try anything that might work.

Love, Carol
