So I see all these authors who have book tours, interviews, readings, and whatever else. I'm new at all this, so I'm curious on how you set up some of these things? I need advice.

I have a few tried and true hints at www.dkchrist.com that have been up on that site for a couple years and are still basic for book signings.

Most important is to get a calendar and determine how many days you plan to devote and then start calling and filling in the boxes. Take the calendar section of the newspaper and call the organizations listed that might be relevant to you as an author.

The most effective approach I have seen is a bonified book launch where a friend or local store "launches" your book with invited guests; you usually have finger food of some sort and perhaps a drawing for a book. Of course, the hostess gets a book as well.

Good luck...

Thank you! I've been considering a launch party, I'm just not sure when, seeing as I don't have my copies yet. I'll check out your hints.

This is the exact same question I am seeking an answer to. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one out there trying to sort this out. I am starting out with the libraries but so far I haven't been able to get anyone on the phone to set anything up so I'm trying the email option.

I see you are from Ohio. Coincidentally, I am trying to schedule something there. You wouldn't happen to be near Marion or Columbus, would you? Maybe we could team up and do a signing together in Ohio and in Michigan. Just an idea.

Try independent book stores, used book stores, and places related to your book. I did my first signing at a book festival; next, a Greek restaurant. I had best luck banging on doors with bookmarkers, businesscards and a book or two in hand. Phone and email didn't land much.
