| I'll take a look but I avoid including a lot of blood and guts in my stories and don't care for tales about serial killers. I did write one once, but "The Old Squad" was more a story of revenge. |

| I think the young man is on track to be an excellent writer, Sue. As for the story, I didn't like it. |

| I didn't think you would like the story, Dick. I was curious, though, about the writing. Thanks for answering my question. |

| I believe you have the making of a fine writer. I found that particular story superflously graphic. The threat of violence is more suspenseful to a reader that the violence itself, especially gratuitous violence. That is true, too, in real life. |

I was just reading this again and I realised that the advice this man has just given me is amazing. He is dead though, it is fucked up. I am seriously disturbed by the fact that such a smart man is dead. His knowledge and life is now done and everything he knew is dead. Why? |

| Dick lived a rich and full life. He survived many life-threatening situations as a young nineteen-year-old rifleman in 1944. You met Dick at the end of his life and he helped you, just as he helped many young adults who were trying to find their way. Helping others came naturally and effortlessly to Dick. He had strong opinions, a quick temper that he kept on a leash and a heart as big as a mountain. Don't be sad at his passing; be glad that you were fortunate enough to have known him for a short while. |

| Incognito, I agree with what Shelagh said. He was a great man. The fact that he responded to you in the manner he did is something to treasure. |

| We have an impact on others every day of our lives; we just don't always have the knowledge of when. Sometimes it is only a few brief words, like Dick's review referenced above, that we reflect on later and realize their truth and importance. That may be all we were meant to share with that person.
I forget these simple truths. Today, a man who appeared to be in his mid to late 30's in a van kept backing into my car no matter how much I beeped (I could not back any further due to traffic behind me) because he wanted a parking place where the car could not leave with him sitting there. I really felt like giving it to him verbally after the parked car had to climb over bumpers to squeeze himself out and the van moved into the spot. I was angry enough to ... and reason stepped in. All ended well. Just think how smart he feels. Perhaps if I had let him "have it" with his family in his car (they were in the van), I would have sowed the seeds of bad things long remembered. |

| I miss Dick's posts. I miss E. Don's posts. I miss Phil Whitley's posts, I miss Marie's post, I miss Sue's post. I miss Rhett's posts and I miss many more who used to post here. Zada Connaway, harry, You all know who you are. I know that life rolls and flows and writing, even on message board, is a moment snatched out of days sometimes. It is for me, anyway. Alice, You are wrong about living forever. It is a matter of quantum physics. We all live forever. That is what we were born to do. There is no new thing under this sun. We are just constantly re-born. Love, Betty |

| A week ago, I went to sleep thinking I would not wake up. I have no idea how that works. But I did wake up, and now do not know what to do with the life I have. Like Shelagh's, my husband's life will be forever changed. I don't know how any of this works, and it is frightening to me. The medical profession did not think that was my last weekend either.
Ann has been one of my main support people, saying encouraging remarks and even getting angry at my crazy thinking
On Friday, my autistic grandson went to the county to get a guardianship since he has turned 18. He bounces into a room, he looks very different than other people, his social skills are not like others. The worker asked Mitchell's parents, "Is Mitchell retarded?" He looked at her and said in his kindest voice, "That wasn't very nice."
To Mitchell it wasn't very nice. He is not retarded, and Ann isn't what Spanky said she is. We are who we are and no one can put a label on us.
I could not decide the last night of my life. I do not want to leave this life although sometimes I hate the pain.
We are who we are, and perhaps there is a part of us that stays here forever.
Love, Carol |

| Carol, I don't think anyone can determine when the end will come, unless one takes matters into their own hands. Living each day as though it were the last has some benefits, however it can also kill the unfulfilled dreams/goals. Make every day count for something. You have given much, received much and have much more to give. Hang in there. We need you. |
