PostSubject: Free B&N ebook reader   Free B&N ebook reader EmptyMon Jul 27, 2009 12:06 pm

I just got an email re a new, free, ebook reader from Barnes and Noble. I just downloaded it to my iphone and got six free books: Mirriam Webster Dictionary, Last of the Mohicans, Little Women, Dracula, and two Jane Austens: Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. Just thought you guys might be interested.

I believe that B&N bought Fictionwise ebooks. Therefore the need for ereader. As I mentioned in another thread, "Times, they are a changing."

Thanks for the link because the dirty, rotten scoundrels did not send me an email offering a free reader. I had just read a lengthy story about B&N going into competition with the Kindle.

B&N's ereader is a free download - including the six books mentioned. Nice little book package...

I just downloaded the thing. Pretty amazing, really. Most books are available for $9.99 or less.
The big question, and no one knows the answer, is what effect this and all the other electronic developments will have on writer royalties in the near future.

Most publisher agreements now include a percentage from ebook sales, generally higher than print books. However, there is quite a debate over pricing; so one doesn't know.

I'm pleased with the reader, too. My cell phone's screen is about 2 1/2 by 4 inches. I can choose the font and size, or whether I want a white screen with black letters or a black screen with white letters, which seems to be easier to read in low light or at night. It's surprisingly legible, and fits comfortably in my hand.

Right now I'm rereading Sense and Sensibility, one of the free books. Other classics are only $4.99.
