Reminds me of a story my mother used to tell. She shared a bedroom with her four sisters. One of them would run down the hallway and take a flying leap into bed. Then their mother rearranged the furnitire and. . .oops, no bed.
I always wondered about the phrase "crashing out" -- now I know!

Time ran out for little Sophie during the night. She was beside her food dish because she loved to eat. In cleaning out her cage Jackie found she was using the little house beside her nest as a place for hiding special treats. We had wondered why she went in there sometimes. Sophie was a gentle hamster who didn't get to live out the brief time alloted to her kind, but she had a safe and comfortable place and did enjoy her short life. It brought to mind the time a few years ago when Zoe, another little friend, died while holding a piece of food she had been nibbling. We'll miss Sophie, as we always miss our little friends, and Jackie has shed tears a few times this morning. Now Sophie is wrapped in one of Jackie's pretty handkerchiefs and resting in a pink file card box with strips of paper to make a soft bed and a few of her special treats.

So sorry, Dick. Sophie was dearly loved and valued. You and Jackie gave her that.

I am sorry, Dick.

Life is so fragile. Send my love to Jackie.

Sorry for the loss. Every little bit of love in this world is a gift, whether given or received.

Ah Dick, I'm sorry to read that you've lost little Sophie. In addition to the light she brought to your life, we got to see that tender side of you when you wrote about her. We know people in the outside world see your toughness and know little else, but we know the truth in here.
Best wishes to you and Jackie now and always.

I know you said that you wouldn't do it again, but you will make another trip to the pet shop, won't you? You both have too much love not to share it.

Dick.

Get a tedy bear hamster They are fuffy, have no tail and are long-lived.

For days after our Chuckie passed on, Dan, who is now 6'8", would make me go into his room to talk about Chuckie.

The loss is very real and devastating.

I wish they had the life-span of a turtle, obviously I am not in charge here.
