Out of the Blue Empty
PostSubject: Out of the Blue   Out of the Blue EmptyThu Jun 18, 2009 4:32 pm

I was mixing up meatballs. Meatballs are like little meatloaves, just round and brown on all sides so they are better with gravy and spaghetti.

The sky was clear. Sweating, I was. Humidity around 90 percent. Out on the porch to cook on the grill because I do not do grease in my new house.

Wooffer went to the bedroom closet. Sara and Jazzmin swarmed my feet. I talked my soothing talk and they knew I was there for them.

Lightning was far off at first and then the hail began. Pea sized. The Wind whipped around and part of the wax myrtle fell down. I told the dogs that it was ok becaue wax myrtles are flimsy trees and break willy nilly.

The wind and the rain began with force... blowing sideways. Lightening was flashing and thunder crashing.

Five inches of rain.

A Florida afternoon rain.

No sign of the water now. It is underground or flowing to the river.

I love Florida.

Love,
Betty

Betty

Betty,

I talked to my granddaughter who was on the way to work across the river. Since the road is torn up she has to take a ferry across the river, but she thinks when she gets off work at ten the weather will be too stormy to take the ferry, and she will have to go to the next town and back and it will be about an hour's drive.

I worry. Thank goodness for cell phones.

Dear Carol,
I would hope she is not driving in the kind of weather we have here. You cannot see even if the wipers are a hundred miles an hour going back and forth. Deluge.

Tell her to wait even if she has to get a room for the night.

Florida rains pass quickly and go south or north or east or west. Seldom is it a long, long, long ordeal. But when it is happening, it is intense.

I have never taken a ferry across a river. I do not think that Florida has one.

I will worry with you.
Love,
Betty

The weather reports are saying the storms are heavy nearly everywhere. Not here. We did have a surprise thundershower pass through here around noon. It was gone as fast as it came, but it kept us from hitting 100 for the first day in well over a week. I have a CD of thunder and rain that I've been playing to go to sleep. Thunderstorms are wonderful when you're tucked safe inside. I agree with Betty, Carol. Maybe your granddaughter can get a room for the night.

We had a Florida-style rain last night with a little hail in it as well. The lightning was just perfect for a spooky Hollywood movie, especially with the power out for 90 minutes.

Sometimes GA gets FL rains.

Dear Malcom,
The beginning of the raining season means power out! We have a Co-op here which means we pay more for electical services. But, if an owl should land on an electric line, the power goes out. If a wind should waft a pine limb near an electrical line, the power goes out. If a power pole wavers in the wind, the power goes out. Not just for minutes, but hours and hours and you can lay their in your bed and sweat, you can get up and use the flash light to call the power company on your cell phone, but all you get is a recording. In really severe weather they call in the good people of GA to help restore. Smile

I know they do the best they can, but we have two generators just in case.

Love,
Betty

Betty, the cat picture is terrific!! I had to zoom in to see the caption.

I have only taken ferries across Puget Sound. I love them. But crossing a river would be different. Scary even.

Our storms here are usually more gentle than what you get in the south. But it does pour sometimes, and occassionally we get floods.

It has been promising to rain here for several days, but we haven't had a drop. You can almost feel it in the air, but not quite. I hope we get a downpour tomorrow. Very Happy

The storms have not started yet. It is thundering in the distance but no rain or wind, so my granddaughter should be home safe and sound.

I'm with you, Merri. It started to rain here about midnight, after giving a few sprinkles as a preview. I had a good night's sleep from it, and am grateful for the rain. It is over now, but maybe we will get some more--we need it.
