Betty, mycontract said that if I do not let them know otherwise before the 7 years is up, they automatically renew it. Or some other such jargon. But that is the gist of it as I understand it.

That is why I encourage all authors to understand their contracts before signing. I have had one who asked numerous questions and two that took them to their lawyer. All came away pleased with the contract, but that isn't necessarily so for other authors with other publishers. I use to say read your contract. Now I say read your contract, but most of all, understand your contract!

Be especially wary of ezine contracts. Some keep the rights for the life of the copyright.
