Will someone please tell Shelagh that while I may not laugh, I do smile now and then. It has even happened two or three times in a single day. I try to avoid that because it's tiring and I hate to waste energy. I bet Sophie makes you smile. |

| Marie,
With or without a muse, I try to drown out (or ignore) all the other voices, ideas, thoughts, etc. trying to get my attention.
My muse can be insistent, though. She intrudes into my thoughts when I'm trying to ignore her.

| To the tune of ALL NIGHT LONG
Malcom sent his muse a telegram,
She read it in a hurry.
She sent a message back to him
And told him not to worry,
Things were fine
Yeah, things are fine.
He asked her where the heck she’d been
She said up north in Arkon
Looking for a man named Dick
When she found him she’d be back home.
But things were fine
Yeah things are fine.
And then she flew across the sea
Where Shelagh and Abe were waiting
And the three of them then started up
A forum with no hating.
And things were fine
Yeah things are fine.
Back home she stopped in Washington
To grab herself an apple
While there she saw Alice and Zada
And taught them to play Scrabble
And things were fine
Yeah things are fine.
And then she said she had to go
To Wisconsin to see Carol
She’d learned that she might need her help
Her new book had her over a barrel.
But things were fine
Yeah, things are fine.
Soon she was down in San Antone
Helping Ann on her agenda
But Texas is so very big
She left before she found her.
But things were fine
Yeah things are fine.
And then her travels took her to
West Virginia on the east coast
Found Marie was working with some male muse
Whom she thought was the most
But things were fine
Yeah things are fine.
Down to Georgia she then went
To help Brew bake cat head biscuits
But he was working on his new book
And had to time to visit.
But things were fine
Yeah things are fine
Then she swung down through Florida
To visit Don and Betty
She was eating strawberries
And had pen and paper ready.
And things were fine
Yeah things are fine.
Don decided then and there
No muse-a-grams for me
I’ll take my chances by myself
And what will be will be
And things are fine
Yeah things are fine.

Damn, I hope I didn’t miss anyone. |

| Great song, E Don. With that muse traveling so, maybe she could find Hoffa.

| Very nice poems. I love to write with a muse, when people show up and do things I didn't plan them to do. Some die, some are born, some just live on. Now I'm working on letting my muse help with nonfiction, bringing those words and thoughts together that will have the most meaning. My muse is still thinking. Carol |

| So we are all making use of the same muses? Well that explains a thing or two. I find my muse strikes at the weirdest times - like when I am up to my eyeballs in other things but am compelled to toss it aside and write like a fiend in the wee hours of the morning. Or, at the beginning of May when I was felled by the flu. I did not have the energy to do anything but blow my nose...and write. I finished 12,000 words in 2 days. Weird. And I'd like to book her again for this weekend please. |

| Apparently, Pam, there are at least two muses here that we are speaking of. The male muse, whose name is Monroe, seems to be with Marie, but not with Malcom. That is a very large number of M's in one sentence, but when speaing of a muse, I suppose one can use as many as needed.
The female muse, Spring, resides somewhere in Georgia and visits Malcom on a regular basis, and on occasion stops by to see Brew. This is the muse I wrote of, and she is indeed busy. You might say Spring is bursting out all over, at least at this time of year. Spring has also been known to show up in the UK, but she is not nearly as prolific there as here, and only visits a few people on the other side of the pond.
Muses are, by their very nature, quite versitile, and will often inspire not only a great romance novel, but also a science fiction book, as well as a couple of westerns and a non-fiction civil war tale, all at the same time, and all in different parts of the country.
Neither Monroe nor Spring have ever shown up in the vacinity of my keyboard, and, so far as I can tell, they have not taken up residence inside my mind. Perhaps one day one or the other of them, or one of their distant kin, will come to see me, and my writing output will quadruple overnight. Although I have almost no outlet for the output I now put out, I don't know how this will help me, but I am anxiously awaiting the input of ideas and creativeness that she, or he, might pass along to me. |

| So does the thought of having a top ten hit. Wrote a lot of poetry with that in mind. Only managed to come up with one Top 40 song, though, but I've never regretted taking the shot. |

| Love the names Don. I think I'll name mine too, when she shows up this weekend -- I'll let you all know what she says her name is. |

| My muse didn't lead me astray on JOCK STEWART AND THE MISSING SEA OF FIRE (working title).
The book is now under contract with Vanilla Heart Publishing, a small press in Washington State that's published the novels of a number of other authors on this forum.
No details yet, but I think the book will be out by the end of the summer.
I opened up a special bottle of Biltmore Estate red wine that I had been saving for a time like this.

| Contratulations, Malcom, on the new book and the publisher, but personally I'd say it had more to do with a good work ethic and a lot of determination to get the job done than it did a muse. |
