| Saturday I had the booksigning event in Yucaipa, and Monday evening, the newspaper editor introduced me to the mayor and city council members, and I presented a copy of Beyond the Quiet to the city. Wonderful events in my writing life, and they made me feel like a celebrity.
Only thing is, I forgot to take photos! But two reporters from the newspaper did, and if they came out, I'll post them. And no, I didn't lose forty pounds the week before and sure didn't get the facelift, so I was just me.
I did get a lot of compliments on my table presentation at the booksigning, so I recreated it and thought I'd post it here so we can exchange ideas.
I'm not one for frills, but I bought small woven pouches and tied them to my bookmarks. I chose a light yellow color, and inside each, I included a small 'Believe' quote and a wrapped chocolate. People loved them.
Well, for some reason, I still can't post photos, so again, I'll ask Shelagh to come to my rescue. |

| Dear Brenda, I have known you were a glow star from the first encounter. Some people just shine, but you glow from within. I imagine you would never have to put a flashlight up to your nose to see where you have to go. That is the little kid in me saying that. What I discovered is that if you do put a flashlight up to your nose to see where you are going, you cannot see anything, not even your nose. You are blinded by the light. BUT! A glow star is like a lightening bug. It shows the way by having a phos burner in a butt that always works. Love, Betty |

| Betty, since I've known you for several years, I'd be honored to be a fellow lightning bug. |

| Brenda, thanks for sending the "First Chapters." I was drawn into each story from the very beginning. At the end of the chapter, I wanted to know more.
You are truly a writer. All that study and training is about to pay off - big time. |

| Looks good, Brenda, but where or what in hell is Yucaipa, or ir it a science-fiction destination? |

| Thanks, Abe. At my age, I don't bounce far.
Shelagh, thanks for posting the photo.
And Dick, Yucaipa is about sixty miles inland from Los Angeles, between San Bernardino and Palm Springs. We're nestled in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, just below Big Bear. |

| It went well, Carol. I forgot to include the small stack of novels in the photo, but for the signing, I had three or four novels stacked horizontally in the middle of the display. With the large photo sitting the highest, that drew the attention, then the eye traveled down the stairstep effect to the actual books - at least that's the way it was supposed to work. I think it did. I didn't sell as many as Don H did on his signing, I think he said he sold about three-hundred, which was wonderful, but mine went very well and I was thrilled. |

| Since I'm not a name-brand-author yet, I wanted to draw attention, and this worked very well. At a signing for Ten Times Guilty a few years ago, I tried a prettier frame, but with the plain one, people notice the cover rather than the frame.
It's all a learning process, and I'd love to hear what has worked for others. |

| That looks really good Brenda! I too tend to keep it simple, and have experiemented with flowers on the table, an army boot...nothing sells like the cover though. That and I gave a stack of books to the ladies at my post office and pharmacy. Now I feel famous whenever I see them; they treat me like royalty! |

| I haven't seen easels like that lately, Jenny. I bought mine two or three years ago at Bed, Bath & Beyond. It fits a 11"x14" photo.
I like to colors too, Merri. Actually, I love the cover.
Flowers would be great, Pam. And an army boot? That's an original idea. Bet that drew attention. |

The boot did create some conversation Brenda, and worked great for speaking about my first attempt at novel writing, "Marching Across the Heart" and for talking about my blog which is called "And the Band Played on my Lawn", which is a referernce to my army band buddies doing just that. |

| Sounds good to me, Pam. Whatever we can do to draw attention, short of belly dancing, is great. I shouldn't say that; I love to watch belly dancing. It's just that my days of even thinking about doing such a thing are long gone. |

| Brenda I wouldn't want to belly dance in public either -- I am sure it would scare everyone away! LOL -- I need to work on my brand rather than a gimmick, but sometimes it's really tempting! |
