| I"ll need to submit my ms. to Lulu as a PDF (so certain fonts will print) and would appreciate any input on PDFs for someone who is completely new at it. Even though Lulu links to the CutePDF site, I'm wondering if it is better to purchase and use an older version of AdobeAcrobat (not as $$$ as the latest version) to have on hand for future use. Thanks. |

| If I understand you correctly and you use WORD, the PDF on the save file should work fine. So should the WORD 97-2003. I have used the latter. On downloading your file on Adobe Acrobat after it is finished, Any version should work OK. If yours won't for any reason, you should get a pop-up that will enable you to upload for free. I admit I'm not completely clear on your questions. |

| Hi Susan,
I had this problem with the file for Forever Friends and I had to change the fonts for the story/poem titles. If you send a pdf file to lulu, they will not guarantee that it will print to the same standard as a pdf file converted from a word document using lulu's uploader. Even if you converted the file yourself, the printing might not be exactly as you see it on your computer. |

| I don't think it's worth paying hundreds of dollars for Adobe toplevel versions (which is what you need to guarantee everything goes across), especially since LuLu might mess it up anyway.
I've never seen a "save as pdf" on word (you might be thinking of rtf, Dick?) but Cute works great unless you want workable links. In which case, I transfer the word file to Open Office and expoert it as a pdf. |

| I have an older version of Word, at least it's now considered an older version, and I have the 'save as pdf' option. It's actually under Print, but instead of printing, it converts the file to pdf. Mine is Word X for Mac. |

| I think that's an after-market addition, no? Like CutePDF or Primo or those. |

| If you have Adobe Reader on your computer, you can print to it using Word. |

| Interesting. I had 2007 MS Office and Word and ditched it because it was so retro-backassards. Nice to know they improved something.
What I'd wonder is the quality of the pdf produced. Not all pdf's are equal by any means. Cute, as I mentioned, doesn't reproduce clickable links. (Worse, they LOOK live, but aren't). Some printer apps won't do backgrounds, or won't do graphic backgrounds, etc.
Shelagh, when you say "word" will print to adobe reader... what version of Word? Adobe Reader creates documents??? |

| I use Microsoft Word, I'm not sure which version just that it is an older version gotten cheap. Anyways, I just up load the stanard word file and let Lul convert the file. I have had no problems so far with the different fonts used in the files I've uploaded so I would recommend just using this method. It is simple and easy just the perfect thing for small brains like me |

| Hint: it's a good idea not to get too bohemian with fonts, anyway. |

| I hate books where the print is to small. It makes them harder to read as wellas strains the eye something bad. For this reason I have made all my books with more readable font sizes though do understand that this could push up the page count. It is one of those things that you really have to think about seriously becaus the wrong one can have a real effect on how readers will look on your book. |

Shelagh, when you say "word" will print to adobe reader... what version of Word? Adobe Reader creates documents??? You need Adobe Acrobat Elements stored on your computer and the reader to read the files you create. In Word, if you click on Print and choose Adobe PDF as the printer, a pdf file will be created. Hint: select "PostScript custom page" from the "scale to paper size" menu. |
