Ritual - The Liturgy (Creed) – expression of faith.

There is much reference to religion on FB especially comparing Islam to Christianity.  There are heated debates that, IMV, expose the ignorance of people along with their deep-seated beliefs.
In most Protestant Churches, the Liturgy (Creed) – doctrinal expression of faith is recited by the congregation.  I was often asked about my beliefs.  At one time I tried to explain my beliefs until I realized that by doing so I was falling into the trap of trying to convince someone that my belief was the correct one.  I am currently of the opinion that what I believe is a private matter.  Whether one follows the doctrine of Jesus or Mohammed  is not important.  I respect those who live their faith.  I do not respect those who make claim to a doctrine but whose actions are contradictory.  “What you are speaks loud…”

I find the study of religion to be interesting and even fascinating.   Even with those who make this study it is problematic as there is the tendancy to try and fit a doctrine with pre-conceived perceived information.

I follow a God that does not belong to a religion, faith, belief or creed. For those who believe in the afterlife, this God will not provide the peaceful haven that other religions offer. Those who disrespect others, and do not treat women as equals, will find this universal God an intruder upon the Gods to whom they worship. In death, the disrepectful will be treated as they treated others in life, irrespective of the God they worship.

Shelagh, what you wrote makes good sense.  I don't believe that a "Universal Intelligence" would subscibe to any man-made doctrine.  How one interprets that UI entity (God) is a personal choice that is inspired from within.  Putting religion aside, I believe that our sub-conscious (that gut feeling) knows right from wrong and man-made laws should not be required if one would follow that inner voice.  Even animals are born with instincts.
